Patriots Unbelievable Comeback Falls Short

Bridgewater, NJ- The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 12-10 in front of 6,514 fans on Wednesday evening in game two of a day-night doubleheader at TD Bank Ballpark.

Bridgeport exploded to score 11 runs in the second inning, highlighted by three run homeruns by Daniel Mayora (7) and former Patriot Iggy Suarez (4).  Suarez also had a two run double that gave him five RBI that inning to lead the way for the Bluefish.

The Bluefish tacked on another run the following inning on an RBI base hit by Yusuf Carter for the 12-0 lead.

The Patriots chipped away at the lead throughout the game for an extraordinary rally.

Somerset plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth after Angel Sanchez walked with the bases loaded and Joe Holden drove an RBI single up the middle to make the score 12-2.

The Patriots rallied to score seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  An RBI double by Jonny Tucker, a three run blast by Corey Smith (14,) and a solo shot by Jeff Baisley (6) helped Somerset cut the lead to 12-9 heading into the seventh inning.

Baisley hit into a double play in the eighth inning that plated a run for the 12-10 final.

Bridgeport reliever Winston Abreu (2-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Patriots starter Brad Thompson (6-6) suffered the loss, surrendering 12 runs on 16 hits in six innings pitched. Jeff Fulchino earned his 13th save of the season.
