Bridgewater-Raritan Wins County Field Hockey Title

Panthers squash Ridge with early goals to grab sixth consecutive championship.

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School field hockey team won the Somerset County Tournament, Saturday, beating Ridge 7-2 in the finals at Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, according to NJ.com.

The title is the Panthers' sixth consecutive county championship.

In the championship game, BRHS scored early, grabbing a 3-0 lead wit 11 minutes remaining, thanks to two goals by Kelly Watson and the third by Emily Howarth. Before halftime, Samantha Giordano and Lindsay Alvarez each added a goal, pushing the score to 5-0.

Leah Watson also scored in the game, and Giordano capped the scoring with her second late in the game.

The team has amassed a 15-1 record, and is currently ranked ninth in the state.
