Monahan, Luetters Lead Panthers

Girls basketball earns title.

David Monahan and Eric Luetters scored two goals a piece to lead the Bridgewater-Raritan ice hockey team to its eighth victory of the season with a 5-1 win over Pope John in a consolation round matchup in the Bridgewater Tournament on Wednesday.

Aaron Golding struck first for the Panthers, finding the back of the net with seven minutes remaining in the first period and Bridgewater with a one-man advantage.

It didn’t take long for Luetters to tack on the Panthers second goal of the day, as he scored his first just 30 seconds later. Luetters second goal would come on a power play with over two minutes remaining in the third period to put Bridgewater up 5-1.

Monahan added both his goals on power plays, one in the second period and the second in the final frame.

Dylan MacDonough scored in the second period for Pope John (3-6-1).

Boys Roll Past Howell

, dropping three, three pointers and racking up 19 points to fuel the Bridgewater-Raritan boys basketball team to its fifth straight win of the season, a 64-37 victory over Howell in the Cougar Classic in Montgomery.

It was Bridgewater’s second tournament win this week (they stopped Montgomery, 57-55 in double overtime on Tuesday) and improved their record to a perfect 5-0 this season.

The Panthers, led by Vitello and Steve Danyluk’s seven points, cruised into halftime with an 11-point lead before exploding on a 24-8 run in the third quarter and coasting to the comfortable win. 

Rob Myers finished with six points and Isiah Solomon and Dom Pace each scored five for Bridgewater.

Girls Win Title

Denisha Petty-Evans netted 15 points to lead the Bridgewater-Raritan girls basketball team to Cougar Classic championship with a .

Bridgewater is 4-1 this season.
