Bridgewater Field Hockey Suffers Familiar Defeat

Christen Piersanti makes 19 saves as Panthers fall for eighth straight year in Group final.

For the eighth straight year, the Bridgewater-Raritan High School field hockey team took on perennial powerhouse Eastern High School in the Group 4 championship.

The outcome on Sunday, however, was no different than the last seven years.

Eastern won its 14th straight Group championship with a 9-2 win.

IN SHORT

It took a few minutes for the Viking offense to get in a rhythm but once they did they kept the Panthers pinned in their own end for almost the entire first half. Panther goalie Christen Piersanti, who was under constant pressure, did all she could to keep the Panthers in the game. For the game, Piersanti had 19 saves including a save on a stroke shot.

Despite the 7-0 first half deficit the Panthers came out battling in the second half playing the Vikings to a 2-2 draw for the half. Emily Miller got
Bridgewater on the board scoring off an assist from Rachel Yaney. Cat Caro added a goal late in the game.

Congratulations to the Panther Field Hockey girls! Although it may seem like another "familiar" defeat.... the girls never gave up and in the second half played the Vikings evenly. That speaks volumes when you think that we are a team of players from Bridgewater and Eastern has players recruited from all over! We stand Proud of the BR Panther girls who play on and off the field with Heart!!!
