Bridgewater student Tanner McWain, a junior at SUNY-Maritime College, in Throggs Neck, N.Y., scored in the school's hockey match against Fairfield University.

The Maritime hockey team faced two Empire College Hockey Conference (ECHC) opponents this past weekend and came out with a 1-0-1 record to improve to 4-3-2 overall on the season, including a 1-2-1 mark in ECHC action.

On Friday night, the Privateers lost to Fairfield University in a shootout by the score of 5-4. Seniors Nick Galli, of Staten Island, N.Y., and Ross Freund, of Westbury, N.Y., both had a goal and an assist for Maritime, while McWain and freshman Mark Tooma, of Monroe-Woodbury, N.Y., also found the back of the net. It was McWain's power play tally that put the Privateers ahead 4-3 early in the third period, but the Stags tied the score up with 8:30 remaining to force overtime. After a scoreless five minute overtime, the teams went to a shootout and Fairfield came out victorious. Junior Harris Burger, of Davie, Fla., made 19 saves on the night.

On Saturday against the Great Danes of Albany, the Privateers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play on power play goals by McWain and junior Vincent Pedulla, of Ramsey, N.J. McWain's was assisted by Galli and Freund, while junior Tommy Kirby, of Rockaway Park, N.Y., and senior Jeff Dolan, of Floral Park, N.Y., chipped in on Pedulla's tally. Albany got one back early in the second period, but Maritime responded with seven unanswered goals – two by senior Steven Altini, of Staten Island, N.Y., another by McWain, a shorthanded goal by sophomore Aidan McHugh, of Ossining, N.Y.,  and the Privateers' last goal of the night off the stick of Nick Galli. Albany added a second goal in the final period, but Maritime held on for the easy 7-2 victory. Burger earned the win by stopping 32 shots and allowing just two goals.

The Privateers return to action this coming weekend, with two non-conference games on the road. Friday night, Nov. 22, the squad will take on former Met Hockey Conference foe Suffolk Community College at the Dix Hills Ice Rink in Long Island at 8:30 p.m. Maritime will then travel to Pittston, Pa. to take on East Stroudsburg University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Revolution Ice Centre.
