2011 Somerset County 4-H Fair

The 2011 Somerset County 4-H Fair will be held at North Branch Park in Bridgewater on August 10, 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Fair recognizes the accomplishments of 1,000 Somerset County 4-H members and is a showcase for visitors to see a wide variety of 4-H projects in action making it the largest event in Somerset County.

Dog, horse, and livestock shows will be included in the fun. Twirling, go karts, rockets, magic, line dancing, model airplanes, R.C. cars, model trains and other 4-H clubs will compete and perform. Numerous exhibits and activites will include The Arts Tent, Science Tent and Prep Tent (for the youngest 4-H'ers) and demonstrations and performances for all ages. A variety of animals including dairy cows, beef, alpaca, horses, dogs, herpetology, sheep, goats, poultry, rabbits and small animals will be on display. Most animal tents will have a petting area and information about how to join 4-H.

The Somerset County Government, Raritan Valley Community College, Veterans Services, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Somerset County Library and other non-profit organizations and commercial advertisers will have displays, information, contests and free gifts. A wide variety of meals and snacks as well as all day, professional and amateur entertainment can be enjoyed.

There will be displays to emphasize the role of agriculture in N.J. The Somerset County Board of Agriculture will present antique farm equipment and local farmers will provide free hayrides and display modern farm equipment.

"Avoid the fuss, enjoy the bus!" To make getting in and out of the fairgrounds as easy as possible, free shuttle buses will run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. each day of the Fair from Raritan Valley Community College Rt. 28, North Branch.

Due to the crowds and hot weather, visitors are asked to leave their pets at home.
