Four Runs in Fourth Inning Cement Bridgewater Win

Bridgewater-Raritan defeats Kearny in the first round of the state tournament.

The  softball team rolled in the first round of the state tournament, defeating Kearny 6-1 Tuesday.

Bridgewater morale was low following a series of heartbreaking losses, but after getting the first runs on the board, the Panthers rolled with strong defense and powerful hitting. Bridgewater cemented its lead in the fourth inning, knocking in four runs.

Alicia Gonnella—Gonnella subbed in for freshman starter Megan Colline, and Coach Sandy Baranowski called the switch the "critical moment of the game." Gonnella gave an impressive performance in the circle, staving off Kearny runs until the final inning.
