Hillsborough Holds Off Bridgewater in Back-and-Forth Battle

Kickoff return for a touchdown seals Raiders' victory.

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School football team fell to Hillsborough, despite controlling the tempo of most of the game.

The Panthers fell behind on Hillsborough's first possession, but quickly recovered and took the lead. After some see-sawing in the third quarter, it seemed the Panthers had the game safely under control after taking the lead with just two minutes left.

The Raiders' Andrew Zitel returned the kickoff for a go-ahead touchdown, and after a good two-point conversion, the Raiders had a 34-27 lead.

The Panthers answered with a series of solid pass plays that moved them toward the goal line. Things were looking good, but Hillsborough's pesky defense closed the door on the game when the Raiders' intercepted Mike Fair with just over one minute left in the game.

After getting a first down, the Raiders ran out the clock to take the 34-27 final score.
