Bridgewater Lacrosse Team Honored as Champs

The team won its second straight Tournament of Champions title.

The 2012 lacrosse team was honored during Monday's township council meeting, and recognized for winning its second consecutive this year.

"It is no secret our lacrosse team won the state title for a second year, an extremely difficult feat to accomplish," said council president Allen Kurdyla. "To achieve this goal, I think it's something that should be admired by not only every resident in Bridgewater, but every resident in the state."

Kurdyla said he is also proud that at least 11 of the members of the 2012 team are planning to play lacrosse in the college programs.

"In addition to the achievement of two consecutive wins at the Tournament of Champions, the team also had a 21-0 streak, extended to 36 games without a loss," Hayes said. "They are ranked No. 3 in the country by ESPN, led by a Hall of Fame coach and have six members named to All American."

All the members of the team stood in front of the council to receive the proclamation, and received a standing ovation from the members of the council.

"This is important to those that play, and it touches the parents, touches the neighbors and adds to the overall quality of life in Bridgewater," Hayes said. "It is an exciting day when I can given a proclamation on the team's behalf."
