Local Hoops Legend Pays Camp a Visit

boys basketball coach Gene McAteer had a special guest at his camp on Tuesday.

Local hoops legend Eric Murdock was the guest speaker. Murdock, a graduate of Bridgewater West in 1987, was the 21st overall pick in the 1991 NBA Draft after a great collegiate career with Providence College. For the next nine years, he played for a number of teams, including the New Jersey Nets. Murdock is currently an assistant coach at Rutgers University.

Murdock shared some of his ideas and basketball workout routines with campers.

Murdock's son, Eric Jr., will be a senior for the Panthers in the fall and was a starter on the winter squad that finished 21-9. Murdock actually played McAteer in high school when he was a student at Watchung Hills.

The camp will continue for the next six weeks. Open spaces are still available and the registration page can be mailed in advance. On-site, walk-in registration is taken starting every Monday morning during the camp at 8:15 a.m.
