Novak Helps Rowan Medley, Free Relay Teams Capture Swim Events

Rowan outpaces Pace University at Nov. 23 meet.

The Rowan University men’s swimming and diving team had a 193-99 win at Pace University Nov. 23, with Bridgewater freshman Jesse Novak and the men's medley team capturing two first place finishes.

Rowan took first place in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays with times of 1:36.76 and 3:15.34 respectively. The medley relay included Larry Dow (sr. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Tyler Coe (so. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), Pat Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Jesse Novak (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan). Malone, Novak, Dow and Troy Cervini (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) made up the free relay. 

Zac Wister (jr. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) took first in the 1000 freestyle (10:12.82) and second place in the 500 freestyle (4:57.54). Chris Cannizzaro (jr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep), Brad Updegraff (fr. Frederick, MD/Walkersville) and Tylar Warfle (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) finished one (2:02.77), two (2:05.37) and three (2:07.25) in the 200 butterfly. Warfle also took second in the 100 butterfly (54.96).

Novak won the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.03 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.38. Steve Buzby (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:54.22, while Malone took first place in the 100 butterfly (52.29). Malone also finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:45.55) and Buzby came in third with a time of 1:48.62. 

Connor Buck (so. Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:25.73 and third (5:01.80) in the 500 freestyle. Kyle DeVore (fr. Annapolis, MD/South River) was second in the 100 backstroke (54.98) and also finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:02.85). Coe took second place in 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:00.88.

Cervini had a second place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.42) and Dow took second with a time of 49.17 in the 100 freestyle. Dow also placed third in the 100 backstroke (55.72). Mike Simunek (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.10) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.78). 

John Morris (fr. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) won the one meter diving (292.95). Ben Balestri (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) finished second (241.65) and Killian O’Gorman (so. Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) took third (211.13). In the three meter diving, Morris was first (252.38), Balestri second (221.18) and O’Gorman third (165.38). Morris was named the NJAC Diver of the Week for the third time this season.
