Over the long Thanksgiving weekend, a local 19U field hockey team, Total Dutch Orange, competed in the nation’s largest showcase just outside West Palm Beach, Fla.
Total Dutch played six games in three days against teams from Pennsylvania, Maryland, California and Canada.
While competing in the tournament’s top bracket, the team returned with a gold medal, and an overall record of 5-0-1. In the opener, Total Dutch beat a 19U Elite team from Vancouver, Canada, by a score of 2-1.
The next day, the local team managed to hold onto a 1-1 tie against the Bucks County Firestyx.
On the third day, the sixth and final game would determine the winner of the tournament. That match was played against Pennsylvania’s WC Eagles, currently ranked number one in the nation by USA Field Hockey—Total Dutch won that championship game 1-0.
Three Bridgewater-Raritan varsity girls play for Total Dutch: Sam Giordano, Sam Lisk and Victoria Umbach. These girls were instrumental players for the local team, resulting in Total Dutch outscoring their opponents 21 to 2.
Other key local players for Total Dutch are Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough HS), Allie Manheimer (Montgomery HS), Sam Siegel and Lauren Crane (Bernards HS).
