Monahan, Lewis Propel Panthers Past Ridge

Grapplers impress at Garden State Wrestling Classic.

Two power play goals in the third period proved to be the difference maker on Saturday, as the Bridgewater-Raritan ice hockey team pulled out an impressive 3-2 win over Ridge High, improving to 5-0-1 this season.

David Monahan's second goal of the day tied the score at 2-2 in the third period, and set the stage for a Nick Lewis game-winning goal (assisted by Tyler Darby and Eric Luetters) 7:46 into the final frame.

Both Ridge goals were scored by Tommy Carpenter and assisted by Chris Mastroianni and Keith Knapp as Ridge fell to 2-2-1 this season.

Three Grapplers Earn Gold at Garden State Classic

The Bridgewater-Raritan wrestling team opened its 2011-12 season in style on Saturday at the Garden State Wrestling Classic at Princeton High School, as five grapplers earned a trip to the tournament finals, leading Bridgewater to a third place overall finish in the team standings.

The Panthers first place finishers include Matt Noble (113 pounds), Valerio Lamorte (132) and Pierce Gladfelter (145), while Gianni Calo (106) and KJ O’Sullivan (152) took home silver medals.

Jesse Gonzalez (195) rounded out the impressive day for Bridgewater with a fourth place finish, helping the Panthers to a third place overall finish in the team standings.
