Local Basketball Stars Have Standout Seasons

We catch up with several former BRHS basketball players.

With basketball season well underway, we catch up with some of the best players to have come out of , and see how they're doing now.

, shooting guard, Drew University: Senior Asmar Capers, a preseason D3Hoops.com All-America Team selection, was out of the Rangers’ lineup for five games and recently returned Jan. 7 against Susquehanna University. Capers picked up where he left off prior to his absence by canning a team-leading 22 points. The next game on the following day, Capers totaled 15 points. Thus far on the season through the nine games he’s played, Capers is averaging 19.8 points a game, and averaging 3.7 rebounds a game. Drew is 2-12 overall on the season.

, shooting guard, NJIT: The senior guard scored three points in 10 minutes of action on Jan. 7 in his team’s 85-70 loss to Longwood. NJIT is 6-8 overall on the season. Ohri has started seven games and averages seven points a game. He’s shooting 41 percent from three-point land [24-of-59] and playing 17 minutes a game.

, forward, Montclair State: August continues his strong start to the season and the Red Hawks are on a roll, winning 11 of their past 12. August is averaging 20.4 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. In the team’s last outing, August scored 20 points and six rebounds in Montclair State’s 77-63 victory. Montclair State is 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the strong New Jersey Athletic Conference.

, forward, Moravian: The senior has started all of this team’s 13 games [Moravian’s record is 6-7 overall]. In the team's last outing, a 91-68 victory over Goucher College, Cullinan started, played 20 minutes, scoring eight points and collecting three rebounds. He’s averaging 8.3 points a game and 4.7 rebounds a game.

Max Schwartz, forward, Stevens Institute of Technology: The sophomore is part of a bench that has been an integral part in the team’s 10-2 start to the season. Schwartz has played in all 12 games and averages 3.8 points a game. The team is off to a 2-0 start in the Empire 8 Conference, and has won eight of its last nine.
