Summer Concert Series Returns to Bridgewater

The concerts will be held at Duke Island Park.

The summer is kicking off in a familiar manner as the Somerset County Park Commission kicks off its 2012 Summer Concert Series July 1.

The series will be held every Sunday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at .

Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and picnic baskets to the concerts, enjoy music and dance as they listen to the sounds of all different styles of performers.

The series kicks off Sunday with The Duprees.

The performers are:

  • The Duprees July 1, with such hits as “Have You Heard,” “My Own True Love” and “Goodnight My Love.” After 40 years in the music industry, they continue touring and recording.
  • Motor City Revue, July 8, a band that recreates Motown sounds with songs by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations and the Supremes.
  • The Hitmen, July 15, a band made up of the original recording and performing artists from acts like Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Tommy James & The Shondells and more.
  • Savoy Brown, July 22, a group that has played together for more than 40 years, and has headlined at such venues as Carnegie Hall with boogie, blues and rock.
  • The Chi-Lites, July 29, which is one of the top R&B groups, and has been touring for 55 years. Songs include “Oh Girl,” “Have You Seen Her” and “Hot on a Thing,” and the band was inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2000.
  • Ken Navarro, Aug. 5, to perform his jazz guitar, which he has played in every major U.S. city. Navarro’s 2010 album was nominated for two Grammy awards, and his 2008 album was named the No. 1 contemporary jazz album of the year by the Jazz Times.
  • Jeffery Broussard & Creole Cowboys, Aug. 12, which is the newest band in the Zydeco scene, with renditions of Creole classics. This performance will follow the 15th annual Bayou Fest, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the Voodudes, a band that is a combination of Creole Soul, Swamp Funk and Bayou Boogie.
  • Radio Nashville, Aug. 19, with its country performance of top hits by Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum and many more. Their performance will follow Country Fest at Duke Island Park, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., featuring a performance by Beth Anne Clayton, a singer who combines country and rock music in her performances.
  • Standing in the Shadows: A Four Tops Tribute, Aug. 26, as the band sings Motown and other songs by this iconic band.
