Donated Goods Delivered to Raritan Center for New Moms

Township's second effort to help Pregnancy Aid and Information Center yields increased donations.

After launching a renewed effort to help area young mothers in need in December, Township Council President Matt Moench looked over the goods collected and dropped off Tuesday at the Pregnancy Aid and Information Center.

He estimated township residents gave about three times as much as last year, which made the volunteer staff at the center very happy.

"We'll be crowded for a day," center Director Christina Manera said. "It goes out very quickly."

The donations were taken to the center by Department of Public Works employees Tom Marshall and Don Dinorscio, who delivered the donations in teh back of a township utility truck.

Moench said the program, which seeks clothes, toys and supplies for infants and toddlers up to four years old for the center, has proven popular with the township employees and residents.

"People don't know what to do with a lot of this stuff," he said, adding the center is always in need of such items, making the township's collection effort a good match. "They need to the church donations and local folks to survive."

He said the township may look to do similar collection drives at other times of the year to further help the center, and the project could be further expanded with partnerships with local retailers.
