Gap stores in the area are coming together this weekend for "Help Close the Gap on Autism" in an effort to collect donations to help the worthy cause, according to a release from the store.

The , in the Somerset Shopping Center, is teaming up with Autism Speaks for the donations between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2, with in-store promotions and collections.

According to the release, customers who donate $5 to the cause will receive 25 percent off their purchases for the day.

The event will run at the Gap in Bridgewater Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

And, according to manager Jackie Freedman, any one who donates will receive a puzzle piece to write their names on.

"We'll post those on the wall, and there will be some kids can color on," she said. "We want to make a big deal about this and get everyone involved."

Autism Speaks, according to the release, is the nation's largest autism advocacy organization, and is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, while also raising money for research and prevention.

The fundraiser this weekend will be held at Gap stores in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
