Not Ready to Adopt? Provide a Foster Home Instead

Somerset Regional Animal Shelter and others welcome area residents able to provide temporary help.

Some people love animals, but aren't in ideal circumstances to commit to a life-long best friend. Uncertain living arrangements or perhaps a temporary relocation used to mean skipping out on the companionship an adopted dog or cat can provide—but it doesn't have to anymore.

Consider helping area rescue groups as a foster home—the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter is always in need of homes to foster animals for a variety of reasons. A small spare room can be used to temporarily house an orphaned litter, or a kitten or cat recovering from a mild sickness that shouldn't be around other animals; or perhaps help a nervous and frightened animal learn to be a good companion again.

You can enjoy the love and joy pets provide, while helping the cat or dog become better adjusted to household living—without the longer-term commitment.
