Teen to Tow a 737 to Benefit Special Olympics

Bridgewater's Brett Locker assembled a team of 20 to help his Bar Mitzvah project at Newark Liberty International Airport

Bridgewater student Brett Locker needed a good community project to complete for his upcoming bar mitzvah at Temple Beth El, in Hillsborough, and he knew he didn't wanted to just do more than "just collect donations."

When he learned about the Special Olympics NJ plane pull from Michelle Waiser, who has been actively involved with Special Olympics of NJ for many years, he found his project.

Brett is a hockey and lacrosse player, and the challenge of the plane pull sounded too great. He and his 20-member team will have a chance to win one of several competitions scheduled for the airport's Family Day events, Oct. 5.

They can win by being the fastest team to pull the 93,000-pound jet 12 feet, or by being the team with the lowest total team weight to pull it 12 feet.

The top fundraising team will also be recognized by Special Olympics of New Jersey—which is where readers can really help: the team Brett and Waiser started has collected $1,356 of Brett's $1,500 goal—go to his team's fundraising page on the Special Olympics website and make a pledge to the team to help

Donations can also be sent to: Special Olympics New Jersey, Attn: Plane Pull – Green Giants, 3 Princess Road Lawrenceville, NJ 08648

The donations can not only help Brett lock in a win, but also go towards helping the Special Olympics' year-round efforts at providing sports training and competitions to adults and children with intellectual disabilities.
