Dispatchers, Riverfront Property and Tea Party Highlight Week

Quiet week will mark the end of summer doldrums

This is the last week of summer. Not astronomically, but sociologically.

Except for athletes preparing for fall sports, Bridgewater-Raritan schools will be quiet this week before the level of activity shifts into a higher gear next week with new staff orientation and freshman orientation at the high school.

The level of other news in the township will also slowly begin to accelerate as organizations and government entities slowly slip from the doldrums of summer.

On Monday night the Township Council will take a vote on whether to transfer the township’s 911 dispatch system to the county. Proponents say it will save taxpayer money while opponents say that Bridgewater’s unique character and geography are reasons to keep the dispatchers at police headquarters. http://bridgewater.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/council-will-vote-tonight-on-911-dispatcher-switch

Also on the council agenda is an ordinance to acquire a conservation easement for open space and passive recreation at 4 Edgewater Ave. along the Raritan River in Bradley Gardens. If you want an adventure in this last week of summer, take a ride to Edgewater Avenue at the end of Robert Street, a truly overlooked section of Bridgewater, unless you are motorcyclist.

And, a council meeting would not be complete unless there was a discussion of the Green Knoll Grille on the agenda. General manager Justin Carlisi is expected to be attendance, but details of what will be discussed are not known.

With the senatorial primary in the past, the pace of political campaigns will be picking up. The Somerset County Tea Party will be meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bridgewater/Somerset County Library.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment  will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to hear two minor applications, an addition on a house at 970 Rosdemary Drive and a new house on a vacant lot at 446 Shasta Drive.
