All About Blood...Who Knew?

For the past month or so, I've been organizing a blood drive for the delearship, here at BMW of Bridgewater.  This time of year it's important to provide blood due to the coming winter shortages at local hospitals.  So, we wanted to help make a difference in the community....because you never know who will need blood if, God forbid, there's an accident.

I was sent a ton of information about giving blood, more than I could ever imagine!  Who knew there were so many different types of blood donations and how frequently you could donate!
Here's just a few examples:
Whole Blood Donations;  This is considered the "traditional" donation, in which one whole unit of blood is collected and separated later in the lab. This is the quickest process, taking about 45 minutes and you can donate about every 8 weeks.
Platelets: These are part of the blood cells that help control bleeding by forming a clot and allowing the wound to heal.  The donating process can take about 2 hours!
Red Cells: These are the most common type of blood cells.  They transport oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and body tissue.  This type of donation takes about 2 hours and you can donate every 8 weeks.
Plasma: Contains minerals, proteins, sugars and hormones and it's the liquid through which all blood cells travel. You can donate every 4 weeks.
Again, a lot more information about blood than you ever wanted, but it's still important!  So, please help BMW of Bridgewater save lives and register for our blood drive next Tuesday, November 12 th, from
9-2pm. Registration is required, please call Jen Silva (908) 287-1800.
For every registrant, you will be automatically entered to win a $500
Visa Gift Card!
