It's been an incredible year in Bridgewater, with lots of good news—and lots of not-so-good news. We checked back to find the stories that readers flocked to this year and here are the top six:
Discredited Waitress' Wounded Warrior Donation Can't Be Verified
The incredible story of Bernards resident Dayna Morales, who said she was cheated on a tip by a family who wrote a homophobic message on the receipt Nov. 14, unraveled later when the family showed they'd actually paid a tip. In between, Morales reported receiving thousands of dollars from supporters—but the ex-Marine vowed to donate the donations to the Wounded Warrior Project. Several weeks after making the promise, the group could not verify any donations had been made.
Juvenile in Critical Condition After Being Struck on Route 22
The May 7 accident sent the child to Morristown Medical Center in critical condition after a driver struck him while he was walking in the left lane of Route 22, near the Route 202/206 overpass.
Mourners Pay Final Respects to Man Killed in Crash
Bridgewater resident Peter Calvelli, 45, was killed Jan. 16 in an accident caused when a vehicle driven by Warren resident Lori Weiss crossed into his lane. Weiss was later convicted of
Bound Brook Resident Killed in Route 22 Collision
Esperanza Guardado, 45, was killed Feb. 28 after the vehicle she was riding in collided with another, causing it to go off the roadway and hit a tree. Five other people involved in the accident were taken to area hospitals.
Six Charged in Vandalism Spree
Six teenagers have been charged in connection with a vandalism spree over the July 4th weekend, when 43 residents reported mailboxes damaged.
Bridgewater the Safest Big Town in NJ, Data Shows
A study of crime reports from 2011 and 2012 for New Jersey towns with more than 40,000 found Bridgewater had the lowest rate reported.
