6 Top Bridgewater Business Stories for 2013

2013 may have marked a turn in the local business environment.

Bridgewater may arguably have the most dynamic business environment in New Jersey: it's not only home to corporate headquarters for many companies, but it's also a retail center for one of the state's most affluent areas.

Bridgewater is also New Jersey's center for pharmaceutical companies, and the dynamics of these factors mean there's often important business news coming out of the township.

Bridgewater Mall Expansions

Inside the mall there are lots of changes going on, but the bigger news may be what's happening on the outside: after winning approval for an expansion that will bring a Seasons 52 restaurant to Bridgewater, the mall's owner's returned to the township with plans for another addition.  

Sanofi Among Largest Employers in County

The roughly 2,000 employees of Sanofi put it near the top of a list of top employers in Somerset County assembled by the Somerset County Business Partnership—but far behind Verizon Business, with 3,500 employees in Basking Ridge. 

Bridgewater-Based Savient Pharmaceutical Files for Bankruptcy

After a splashy local launch in 2012, Savient found itself in trouble when its efforts to market a new medication for its gout treatment KRYSTEXXA. Recently, an offer by Crealta Pharmaceuticals may end Savient's bankrupcty troubles.

Company Makes a Sweet Impression at Expanded Bridgewater Research Center

Ingredion, formed by the merger of National Starch and Corn Products International, committed to its Bridgewater laboratory, expanding it to make the local complex one of the centers of development for artificial and natural sweeteners needed by food processors.

Somerset Area Office Vacancies Drop to 12.4% in 3rd Quarter

Commercial real estate services provider Cassidy Turley noted several favorable trends in commercial real estate in the area, with vacancies falling and rates heading up after several down years. The announcement also doesn't include the recent news that Bausch and Lomb may relocate the company's headquarters in Bridgewater, after leasing space in the Somerset Corporate Center.

Microsoft Opens Retail Store in Bridgewater

Microsoft's expansion into retail began in 2009, after the launch of Windows 7 OS, but really hit stride in 2013 as plans to open 75 new locations—including one in Bridgewater Commons—were completed.
