The school values certain aspects of life beyond regular schooling, practicing the use of logical consequences forMore behavior to teach respect and responsibility, while also emphasizing pride for the achievements of students.  Academically, the school features a literacy program based on the research of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, and includes a Reading Recovery program to support at-risk first grade readers. The school's math program promotes higher-level mathematical thinking through applying the skills learned to everyday living and the science curriculum looks at inquiry-based lessons as well as experiments in the classroom. In addition, the school offers classes in social studies, art, music, technology and Spanish studies and provides a counselor to work with students on character education. In addition to classes, students take part in enrichment activities, like Crim Young Author's Day, the district's annual art show, musical concerts and Crim Spirit Day, and enrichment students are also encouraged to participate in a geography bee, the Continental Math League, the literary magazine and other programs. As far as safety, staff members are trained in CPR and other lifesaving techniques, and students participate in Red Ribbon Week, the Second Step health program and stranger awareness lessons. Fourth graders also take part in safety patrol and bus buddies programs.

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension is supported by the United States Department of Agriculture, New JerseyMore Agricultural Experiment Station, Rutgers University and the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The organization provides education and technical assistance in many different area such as agriculture, the environment, natural resource management, food safety, nutrition, health and youth development.

Rutgers Cooperative Extension educates adults and children through newsletters, classes, websites, 4-H clubs, camping and school programs, gardening workshops, volunteer training and collaboration with other agencies. The organization currently has about 650 volunteers who work throughout the community.
