Jets RB Goodson Arrested on Gun, Drug Charges

The Irvington native signed a 3-year, $6 million contract with the Jets in March.

Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Goodson, 25, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon stopped in the left center lane of I-80 West when a tow truck came upon them and called 911 early Friday morning, according to multiple reports. The tow truck driver reportedly was concerned about the intoxicated condition in which he found Goodson and the driver of the Yukon. Goodson was transported to Saint Claire’s Hospital in nearby Boonton and eventually charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun, and possession of a hollow-point bullet, according to ESPN. Bridgewater-Raritan girls will have to settle for being the second best softball team in Somerset County after losing the tournament semifinal Saturday 8-0 to Hillsborough. Hillsborough got off to a solid start when pitcher Alexis Schengrund struck out the side in the first inning. Somerset County Track Championships Attract 650 Student Athletes

Franklin High School Sweeps at major track competition held at Hillsborough High School.

An estimated 650 or more students that are part of boys and girls track teams from high schools throughout the county came together for Tuesday's Somerset County Championships held at Hillsborough High School. The students participated in 15 events that included running, jumping and throwing, starting after school and continuing until the skies got dark. About 1,500 attended. Coming out on top of the boys and girls rankings were the teams from Franklin with the highest ranking Patch town Hillsborough, which captured a second for the girls and fourth for the boys. Report: Former Net Jason Collins Reveals He's Gay

Former New Jersey Nets center Jason Collins, who played for six seasons with the team including a championship run in the 2002-03 season, revealed he was gay in a soon-to-be published story. Collins said in a first-person account in the May 6 edition of Sports Illustrated posted on SI.com that he “didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. Bridgewater Baseball to Honor Boston Bombing Victim

Players will be wearing patches to honor 8-year-old Martin Richard.

Bridgewater Baseball & Softball is preparing to honor Boston Marathon bombing victim Martin Richard by wearing memorial patches throughout the entire season. Eight-year-old Richard was one of the three victims of the attack that also injured close to 200 people. His message, according to a release from Bridgewater Baseball & Softball, was to stop violence and bring peace into the world. Richard leaves behind his parents, Bill and Denise, and sister Jane, of Dorchester, Massachusetts. Bridgewater Baseball & Softball is holding its annual Strive for Five 5K Spring Fitness Challenge to benefit the 12U teams heading to Cooperstown later in the season. Marine Corps Sponsoring First Basilone Bowl

To celebrate a late Marine who means a great deal to Somerset County, and give graduating seniors one last opportunity to play football with their peers, the Somerset County Coaches Association is joining with the Marine Corps for the first ever Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone Bowl Game. The event will be held at 6 p.m. June 28 at the Basilone Field at Bridgewater-Raritan High School. Pop Warner Students Named All-American Scholars

About 20 students achieved the honors this year.

The Bridgewater-Raritan Pop Warner team recently named its 2012-13 All-American Scholars, with 20 students achieving the honors. Each year, according to a release from the organization, Pop Warner students compete for Academic All-American status, with a minimum of a 96 percent grade point average required. From there, Pop Warner determines National First Team All-Americans, National Second Team All-Americans and National Honorable Mention Scholars. The mission of the Bridgewater-Raritan organization is to help students benefit from participation in team sports and other activities. The scholars are as follows:
