Panthers hold off two-time defending state champs.
The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys lacrosse team defeated two-time defending state champion Summit on Saturday in the Tournament of Champions final, 6-5, at Yurcak Field at Rutgers. The Panthers, who promised each other during the season they would never lose again, kept their promise, becoming the best of the best for the 2011 season. Bridgewater-Raritan handles Somerset County rival Immaculata in Tournament of Champions semifinals.
The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys lacrosse team just keeps rolling over opponents. On a hot Wednesday afternoon at Kean University, the Panthers–winners of 19 games this season–advanced to the Tournament of Champions final after dominating Imaculata, 12-7. Bridgewater will face two-time defending T of C champions Summit–winners of 68 straight–in the final at Rutgers' Yurcak Field at 3 p.m. on Saturday. “It’s an awesome feeling,” Scott Bieda said after the win. “Going to the TOC finals. It’s a team effort. Bridgewater-Raritan puts on offensive display vs. Immaculata
The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys lacrosse team had an offensive explosion to defeat No. 2 seed Immaculata, 12-7, in the Tournament of Champions semifinals on Wednesday at Kean University. John Longordo led the team in scoring with three goals, but it was the offense from multiple Panthers that helped bring the squad to the brink of an overall state championship. Four goals in championship propel Panthers past Hunterdon Central.
An extra day off did nothing to disturb the Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys lacrosse team's quest to secure a Group IV state title, as the Panthers cruised past Hunterdon Central, 9-6, Thursday at Ridge High, after the threat of poor weather postponed Wednesday's game. The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys lacrosse team upended Group IV No. 1 seed Hunterdon Central at Ridge High School on Thursday night, 9-6, to win the group title. Ray Mastroianni had four goals to help lead the second-seeded Panthers. John Longordo and Scott Bieda both notched two scores, and Justin Higgins scored the first goal of the game. Bridgewater-Raritan takes control of game vs. Hillsborough in the third quarter.
Bridgewater-Raritan High School defeated Hillsborough, 12-10, in a hard-fought and physical game in the Group IV semifinals on Saturday at Basilone Field. The Panthers took control of the game in the third quarter, just like in the regular season contest between the two teams that was won by Bridgewater, 8-3, on April 27. IN SHORT Both Bridgewater-Raritan and Hillsborough went back and forth in the first half with no team having more than a two-goal lead. Tyler Konen scored for the Panthers with less than three seconds left in the first half to make it 6-5 in favor of Bridgewater.
