NY Jets coach 'did not deny causing the accident' after allegedly going through red light.
New York Jets head football coach Rex Ryan told authorities he was trying “to beat the light” when he apparently caused a minor three-car crash during the evening rush hour last week in Bethlehem, Pa., police said. The accident occurred at the intersection of Wyandotte and W. Third streets, just south of the Hill-to-Hill Bridge on Jan. 14 at 6:13 p.m. One eyewitness and the driver of one of the other two cars in the crash told police they saw a 2013 red Ford Mustang, which Ryan was driving, go through a red light as it traveled west along W. Three victims of a single-car crash that shut down Route 78 eastbound on Saturday were flown to area hospitals, while two others were taken their via ambulance, according to the New Jersey State Police. Julio Maradiaga-Ramirez, 23, of North Plainfield, was driving near the 39.3 mile marker on the eastbound side of the highway in Warren Township at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday when he lost control of his silver Honda Civic, running off the left side of the road, hitting trees, and flipping the vehicle, according to Lt. Stephen Jones. The car was carrying five passengers when it crashed, and the police report indicated that some of the occupants were not wearing seat belts, Jones said. An accident on Route 78 eastbound in Warren Saturday shut down the highway and backed up traffic for miles. UPDATE: Internal injuries and head lacerations were suffered in crash, police say. The accident involved one vehicle and all five occupants were transported to area hospitals, according to New Jersey State Trooper Boazej Oczkos, who said that no fatalities had been reported as a result of the accident as of 8 p.m. An eyewitness at the scene said the accident shut down the eastbound side of the highway, and that two medivic helicopters landed at approximately 5:15 p.m. The right lane and the shoulder of the eastbound side of the highway were the first to be reopened, Oczkos said.

A single car accident on Interstate 78 in Bedminster near the ramp to Interstate 287 on Saturday morning left the driver of a white Nissan Sentra hospitalized with serious injuries, according to Sgt. Bryan Polite of the New Jersey State Police. Andrea Sanchez, 23, of Washington Township, was trapped in her overturned vehicle when the state police arrived on the scene at 2 a.m., Polite said. After being freed from the car, which had overturned onto its passenger side, Sanchez was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, Polite said. The Bridgewater Police Department and the Somerset Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Unit assisted at the scene and the accident is still under investigation, Polite said.

A motorcycle accident on Sunday night left one victim in serious condition and required a medical evacuation from the New Jersey State Police, according to Trooper Christopher Kay of the state police. The accident occurred near mile marker 16.6 on the southbound side of Route 287 in Bridgewater, which was shut down after state police received the call at 7:33 p.m. in order to transport the victim to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Kay said. The driver has not yet been identified by the state police. All lanes on I-287 have been reopened as of 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, said Kay.

A 79-year-old Bridgewater man was hurt in a fatal accident that closed a Hillsborough roadway for three hours Thursday. Gregory Gentile, 27, of East Brunswick, was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he died from his injuries Thursday night, Hillsborough Police said. Joseph Kuhta, 79, of Bridgewater, was also taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash, which occurred at about 4:30 p.m. According to the Hillsborough Police Department, Kuhta's Chrysler LeBaron exited the parking lot of Nelson's Corner onto eastbound Amwell Road when it struck Gentile's Kawasaki Ninja. State Police reporting injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
A worker at the construction site where the Interstate 287 northbound ramp intersects with Route 22 westbound was hit by a vehicle early Friday morning. New Jersey State Police report that Barry Olsen, 55, of Mansfield, was walking across three lanes of traffic from one active construction site to another at 3:38 a.m. when he was struck by a Ford F150 pickup truck. The truck was reportedly traveling on the ramp from I-287 northbound. There were no police or traffic patrols at that time. Olsen was taken to Somerset Medical Center, where he complained of shoulder and neck plain. There were no life-threatening injuries, according to the State Police. A complete accident report is pending.
