State police out cleaning up, but traffic is not blocked.
State police in Somerville said troopers were out on I-78 and Route 287 responding to about 14 to 15 accidentsin the Bernards Township area between about 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, as snow and an icy hail continued to fall on roads. A two-car accident at about 1 p.m. on I-78 westbound at milepost 28, just west of the intersection with Route 287, resulted in no major injuries, according to state police. He said a trooper was at the scene after 2 p.m., but traffic was flowing smoothly. A bypasser said that a car was on the median in that mishap. Circumstances of Thursday afternoon accident still under investigation, Bernards Twp. police say on Friday afternoon.
Bernards Township police said they are still investigating the circumstances of a one-vehicle crash on Lyons Road late Thursday afternoon that sent a 55-year-old Bridgewater man to the hospital with what were described as "moderate" injuries. The police report filed as of mid-day on Friday said that John Leming, of Bridgewater, apparently had driven his 1996 Chrysler into a tree on the side of Lyons Road, just east of the Quincy Road intersection in Bernards Township. The accident occurred at 4:10 p.m., police said, and held up traffic for a few hours. Liberty Corner Fire Co. and First Aid Squad responded to the accident scene and reportedly extracted Leming from his vehicle. The man had suffered a probable broken femur, police said. A …

Franklin man pronounced dead at the scene of Oct. 23 crash.
Franklin Police are still investigating the cause of a fatal Oct. 23 car crash on the bridge connecting Millstone Borough and Franklin Township, and have identified those involved, according to Sgt. Philip Rizzo. John Kolibans III, of the Somerset section of Franklin, was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-car crash. He was driving a 2004 Honda Civic at the time of the accident, which Sgt. Rizzo said occurred around 12:44 p.m. The driver of the second car, Lucjen Wadolowski, 60, also of the Somerset section of Franklin, was transported by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick. In my case, driving as slow as 15 mph helped me regain control without hitting the pavement, trees, etc., and the lack of oncoming traffic was a blessing. Studded tires aren't permitted here since they damage the road surface, like Linda said.   more ›
