Allergan Marks Opening of R&D Center

Company promises to offer hundreds of jobs in Bridgewater.

Allergan, with the promise of hundreds of jobs coming to Bridgewater, opened its doors in the Somerset Corporate Center off Commons Way Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting that featured senators, congressman and the lieutenant governor of New Jersey. Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, Rep. Leonard Lance and Sen. Robert Menendez were on hand to mark the ribbon-cutting, along with Bridgewater representatives, to celebrate the opening of the new research and development facility. Businesses Bringing Hundreds of Jobs to Town

Several pharmaceuticals are opening in town.

Aside from Allergan coming to Bridgewater in the next few months, several other pharmaceutical and technological companies are making their homes in town in the near future. Howard Turbowitz, economic development officer for the township, said the Life Cell Corporation will be coming to Bridgewater, after having initially been based in Branchburg. The company is involved with skin, making biological products created from skin tissue, and used for regeneration and restoration. Turbowitz said the company is coming to 95 Corporate Drive, and will take up about 118,000 square feet in the building formerly occupied by Pfizer. Owners of Botox Moving to Bridgewater

The company will finish phase one of construction in August.

With the promise of 660 new jobs in the next three years, Allergan is moving corporate offices to Bridgewater. According to Howard Turbowitz, economic development officer for the township, the pharmaceutical company is moving to 200 Somerset Corporate Boulevard, Building 200, with construction already beginning. “They have been in existence for 60 years, with 10,000 employees in more than 100 countries,” he said. “Almost half of the business is in ophthalmology and the rest is in Botox.” “They own Botox,” he added. Allergan started as an eye care company, and focuses on many medical specialties, including neurosciences, medical aesthetics, medical dermatology and more.
