She was honored by her Bradley Gardens church.
She is the last surviving founding charter member of the Bridgewater senior center—and last week, Wilhermina Lugo turned 100 years old. A special mass was held celebrating Lugo’s birthday at her home in Bradley Gardens Jan. 7, and officiated by her son, Rev. Joseph Lugo, Jr. “I’m proud to be her son, she’s a wonderful mother and a very caring person,” Joseph Lugo said. “She always wanted to reach 100, she really pushed herself to reach it and she did.” Wilhermina Lugo, known by her friends as Willy, was one of the founding members of the senior group when there were only 12 people wanting to be part. “Now there are over 200,” Joseph Lugo said. A hearing will be held in July on a report by an expert witness that one of the Bridgewater men charged in a murder three years ago may have given a false confession because of his heroin addiction. Katharine Errickson, attorney for David Granskie Jr., told Superior Court Judge John Pursel on Tuesday that Dr. Clarence Watson, a forensic psychiatrist and lawyer based in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, will testify that Granskie, 25, gave a false confession to murdering Carolyn Stone, 45, in the backyard of a Bradley Gardens home during the 2009 Memorial Day weekend. But Somerset County Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Rocchietti said he was “skeptical” both about the science in Watson’s report and some of its facts which opined that Granskie gave the…

A township man who pleaded guilty to a May 2009 Bradley Gardens murder may be considering the withdrawal of his plea after he learned that one of his co-defendants has obtained an expert witness on false confessions. The news that Gary Wilson—who pleaded guilty in July 2011 to murdering Carolyn Stone, 45, in the backyard of a Bradley Gardens home during the 2009 Memorial Day weekend—is thinking of withdrawing the plea came Monday afternoon in Superior Court during a status conference for his co-defendant, David Granskie Jr. Superior Court Judge John Pursel said Wilson has not formally filed a motion, but has written a letter to the court. “I’m not paying any attention to it,” the judge said, adding the letter will be forwarded to Wilson's …

And several residents on Old York Road are eligible for FEMA funding after Irene.
The planning board unanimously approved a plan by Robert and Judy Margist, of Old York Road, Tuesday to construct a 300-square-foot addition to their house, which was damaged in August by floodwaters from Hurricane Irene. But one resident expressed concern that this might actually cause more flooding on his property. Robert Margist told the board that flood waters “substantially” damaged his 1,248-square-foot ranch house on the south side of Old York Road. The flood left the Margists with “basically nothing with the exception of the foundation and four walls.” Because the house is in a flood plain, the Margists will also have to receive permission from the state Department of Environmental Protection to build the addition, Bogart said. …

He cared very much for Carolyn and they were close. He would never do such a brutal thing. He was originally arrested that day on outstanding warrants. He is a heroin addict not a murderer. Im not related to the Stone family…   more ›
