The annual awards ceremony was held in December.
Bridgewater Township Police officers were honored for service to the department at the annual award ceremony Dec. 14. “This is an extremely positive experience for me, the mayor and the department because we do not get a chance to recognize these accomplishments on a daily basis,” said Bridgewater Township Police Chief Richard Borden. The Award, Hiring and Promotion Ceremony was held in the municipal courtroom, and was hosted by Borden and Mayor Dan Hayes. The ceremony, Borden said, began with promotions, with Sgt. Luke Daley promoted to lieutenant, Officer Michael Packwood promoted to sergeant, Officer Paul Payne promoted to sergeant and Officer Sean O’Neill promoted to sergeant. “Lt. The road is passable, but there will be traffic, police say.
A water main break on Route 202 near Talamini Road is causing traffic delays that will last for an undetermined amount of time, according to Bridgewater Township Police Sgt. Paul Payne. The break occurred around 4:15 p.m. Friday, and Payne said that New Jersey American Water is currently trying to shut off the water to the main break. "They're still looking for the shut-off main for that," he said. "Usually they have maps with the area, but they don't always update the maps when things shift." Payne said there are definitely traffic delays in the area of the water main break, but no lanes are actually closed. Instead, he said, they have been shifted. "We have a diversion there," he said. "It's passable, but we have shifted the lanes over …

The Bridgewater Police are participating in the 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign.
The Bridgewater Township Police Department will be cracking down on drunk driving throughout the holiday season with participation in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. The campaign, according to a release from the police department, begins Dec. 7 and runs through Jan. 2 as officers conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints to find motorists who may be intoxicated. The release said the campaign is a national effort to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving with the use of high-visibility enforcement and public education, including posters, banners and video display signs. The program was initially launched in 1999. According to the release, the number of people driving while impaired …

Bridgewater was spared further damage.
Despite more power outages being reported around town because of Wednesday's snowstorm, the township is not dealing with new damage, according to Bridgewater Township Police Chief Richard Borden. "I believe we were spared further damage due to the winds not gusting to great speeds," he said. Fortunately, Borden said, the township is not seeing additional roads closed because of damage. The only reason for some new roads to have temporary closures, he said, is because utility crews are working on the original outage problems. And, Borden said, they are moving forward with no current concerns about additional trees or wires falling because of heavy snow. "At this time, we have had no reports of issues with wires or trees impacted by the snow…

Bridgewater Police urges residents to use caution.
Just a little more than a week after Hurricane Sandy battered Bridgewater, another storm has descended with a nor'easter expected to hit Wednesday evening, bringing rain, wind and possibly snow. "Yet another storm, just what we don't need," said Bridgewater Township Police Chief Richard Borden. And as the precipitation continues to fall in Bridgewater, Borden said it is the tension caused by wind on already fragile trees and wires that has the police most concerned. "Our township crews are obviously still working and will continue working throughout the evening," he said. "We are essentially on standby depending on what type of precipitation arrives, snow or rain." Broden said residents need to stay away from all wires and trees that look …

Police consider whether steps should be taken after a teen was hit by a car Thursday.
The police department will be reviewing its options for a new traffic study to determine if any action can and should be taken following Thursday's incident in which a 14-year-old was hit by a teen driver as she crossed Garretson Road to the high school. The girl was in the crosswalk walking from the Bridgewater YMCA to the Bridgewater-Raritan High School when she was hit by an oncoming car. She suffered non life-threatening injuries in the incident. Parents have said they believe there should be an officer stationed at the crosswalks to try to prevent this from happening again. Bridgewater Township Police Chief Richard Borden said there have been many traffic studies, township engineering studies and independent engineering studies over …

The bear was reported to be non-aggressive.
A baby bear was sighted behind the residences on Garretson Road Tuesday morning, police said. According to Bridgewater Township Police Chief Richard Borden, the baby black bear was spotted around 8:30 a.m. not far from police headquarters. He said the bear was non-aggressive, and therefore the Wildlife Authorities could not respond. "Unless the bear shows signs of aggression, the Wildlife Authorities will not respond to a bear sighting," he said. Bridgewater Township Police Lt. Al Nicaretta said bears are sometimes sighted in the Martinsville area of town, around Vosseller Avenue and other more wooded areas. "Apparently the bears are migrating north, and they are out and about a little more this time of year than others," Borden said. …

'We oppose the use of roadblocks, period. The only justification for stopping citizens under a roadblock scenario is to warn them of an unseen peril that could cause injury or death to an unsuspecting motorist. Roadblocks, as used in the US, are designed and intended to use fear, intimidation, and inconvenience to expedite a government edict or a political agenda. They have a net zero influence …   more ›
