Dates and Divorces

Two dates and one less-than-amicable business divorce show what's best for the Gatsby crew.

Sometimes divorce is the healthiest thing, as we learn on this week's "Jerseylicious." With salon intern Filipo Giove's parents having a recommitment ceremony to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary, his mother comes to Gatsby owner Gayle Giacomo's salon for a consult on her hair and makeup. The problem: she's set on the best.  To her, the best is Giacomo on hair and makeup artist and Glam Fairy owner Alexa Prisco. And when Cathy Giove has the salon consult, she loves Giacomo's job on her hair, but is less than impressed with new head makeup artist Olivia Sharpe's makeup skills. With stylist Tracy DiMarco acting as a double-agent—she's working at the Glam Fairy as a way to further her career and hopes to meet Prisco's New York contacts…

The Search Is On

Gatsby owner Gayle Giacomo searches for a new lead makeup artist.

The search for a Glam Fairy replacement is on. Following last episode's blow up at a volunteer event, Gatsby salon owner, and Bridgewater resident, Gayle Giacomo spent most of her scenes in this week's episode hunting for a new lead makeup artist. Likewise, Glam Fairy and makeup artist Alexa Prisco focused on finding rental space for a Glam Fairy office that gets her away from the Gatsby. As Giacomo said during a party introducing her granddaughter, Daniella, to family and friends, "Honestly, I just think she's rude and I don't know what else to say. She's just an inconsiderate and selfish person." While I understand Prisco promoting her own business, and I'll admit we're seeing her on camera rather than off of it, most of the cuts we've …

Here Comes The Drama

Cracks in the Gatsby-Glam Fairy partnership show on this week's "Jerseylicious."

Wedding bells were ringing this week, and bringing drama to the Gatsby salon, the Glam Fairy makeup artist and owners Gayle Giacomo and Alexa Prisco. It started with Prisco receiving a call from a desperate bride who fires her makeup artist a few days before her wedding. She calls in Prisco and her team, which means the girls are flying to Houston. Since Prisco's short on stylists, she asks Tracy DiMarco and Gigi Liscio, stylists at the salon, to come along. For Giacomo, it's a reluctant concession. She's losing two stylists on a typically busy day at her business—Saturday—but is also allows publicity for the salon should anyone come to New Jersey, and gives her staff something for their portfolios. In addition, Giacomo will get a cut from…

Business With A Side of Family

At the Gatsby salon, it's always about finding the right balance.

At the Gatsby Salon, it's all about events that showcase the salon's offerings. From the spray-tan centered event that opened this season to last season's fashion show and Locks of Love party, owner Gayle Giacomo loves bringing people into her salon. The twist for this season, and for the Bridgewater resident Giacomo, is her daughter, Christy Pereira's, pregnancy—as the seven-to-eight-months-pregnant Pereira says at the beginning of this week's "Jerseylicious," she's tired, she's not feeling well and she's just not up to planning the mother-daughter event the salon hopes to hold. The event idea springs from a decision made by Pereira and her husband, Danny, to hang photos of themselves as children in their baby's room. As the episode opens…

Dressing for Success, Jersey-Style

The Gatsby Salon gets a dress code.

Confession: I could never be on reality TV. It's true—I would make a rotten reality show character, unless someone decides to film a show that revolves around a newsroom. I'm too logical, and would have solved the main plot of this week's "Jerseylicious" in the first 10 or 20 minutes of the show. The subplots—Olivia Sharpe's friend, Briella Calafiore, gets implants, and hairstylist Gigi Liscio's ex-boyfriend, Frankie Buglione, deals with their breakup—however, would take me a bit more time. I dislike implants, but will give Calafiore credit for giving Sharpe a savings jar (a BIG savings jar) to help her save the money for the operation. As for Buglione ... I'm not quite sure what to say. The main plot of Sunday's episode involves a dress …
