Adult School Classes Coming to Bridgewater

It is through a partnership between The Jointure and Adult School of the Chathams, Madison and Florham Park.

With a partnership between The Jointure and the Adult School of the Chathams, Madison and Florham Park, a total of 35 adult classes are coming to Bridgewater-Raritan schools. According to Charlene Peterson—director of the Adult School of the Chathams, Madison and Florham Park—this is a pilot program with classes being offered at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School and Hillside Intermediate School, with computer classes, Spanish, photography, cake decorating, yoga, tai chi, cardio boot camp, grant-writing, jewelry making, crochet and watercolor painting, among others. Students Heading to Regional Science Bowl

BRHS and BRMS students are participating this weekend.

Students in both the middle school and high school have been organizing practices and other sessions to prepare for competition as they get ready for this weekend’s Regional Science Bowl. The competition will be held at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory in Plainsboro, Friday for middle school students and Saturday for high school students. “The NJ Regional Competition is open to all of New Jersey,” said Rob Ambrose, grade eight science teacher at the middle school. For the middle school, 16 teams of five students each will be competing in a double elimination contest with oral questions from the fields of chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy and mathematics. BRMS Basketball Team Wins Championships

The team played in the JV Championship Feb. 1.

The Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School Seventh Grade Boys Basketball Team won the JV Championship on Feb. 1. The team played JP Case (Flemington) in the championship game on Friday, winning 50-32.   The team is made up of Justin Bryant, Tyler Ball, Daniel Banz, Douglas Collins, Ryan Collins, Aaron Gao, Daniel MacKinney, Karthick Murthy, Chike Nwanko, David Usewick, Jack Whelan and Sterling White. The team's coaches are Michael Geremia and Dan Grigal.

School Bus Battery Thefts Under Investigation

Thefts caused up to about an hour delay Tuesday morning.

All school buses were expected to be on time for the Tuesday afternoon pick-up, despite being up to an hour late in the morning after 11 batteries were stolen overnight. Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District Transportation Director Bill Coyle said all buses will run on time for pick-up and drop-off after school. Bridgewater Township Police are investigating the report of the batteries stolen from buses belonging to First Student, the bus company the district uses for transportation. "We don't know how it happened," Bridgewater Township Police Lt. Al Nicaretta said Tuesday. Drunk Driving Grant Wanted in Bridgewater

Town Council also moving forward with road improvements near the middle school.

What follows is an account of actions taken on Nov. 8 by the Bridgewater Township Council, which, while not breaking news, are still of note. Township to submit grant for drunk driving crackdown The township council unanimously approved a resolution to submit a grant application to the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety for its Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over 2012 Year End Crackdown. The grant application is for $4,400. “This is for directed patrols for removing drivers who are driving under the influence,” said township administrator James Naples. Bullying Reporting More Likely for Middle Schoolers, Principal Says

Majority of district cases have been at BRMS.

Recently, the board of education heard a report on violence and vandalism in the school, and although there have not been too many incidents reported, most of them have been reported at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School. There were a total of 164 reported incidents, but only 54 were confirmed as actually being harassment by state standards for the entire 2011-2012 school year. A total of 27 were confirmed in the second reporting period, from January through June. The incidents, which were mostly verbal, spanned across reports of bullying for race, color, sexual orientation, disability or other distinguishing characteristics. BRMS Students Start Club With 'Passion' to Help

Students Raising Students comes to the middle school, courtesy of five students.

It is based off the clubs of the same name at Hillside Intermediate School and the Bridgewater-Raritan High School—and now a group of five middle school students are making their mark to help students get an education in Africa. The group is called Students Raising Students, and it is a program designed to help raise money to send to students mainly in Kenya and Tanzania to enable them to continue their education. “This is a club that raises awareness for money for children in Africa to go to school, where most live in poverty,” said Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School seventh grader Brady Feuer. Feuer took on starting the club this year after he decided to make it his community service project to fulfill the requirements for his Bar Mitzvah…

Important School Dates to Remember

Here are some dates to know in September and October.

School is only a week away, and that means everything will be beginning again, from the first day jitters to back-to-school nights and so much more. So to get everyone fully ready, we present dates to know as the school year kicks off. Aug. 30—Freshman Orientation Freshman orientation will be held at the Bridgewater-Raritan High School, with students with last names beginning A through L coming in at 10 a.m., and students with last names beginning M through Z coming in at 1 p.m. All students should bring a copy of their schedule to orientation, and report to the auditorium Sept. 4—Teachers Report for First Day, 5th Grade Open House All teachers are reporting to their individual schools for their first day, before students come to school. …

Eighth-Graders Graduate, Ready for Next Step

Bridgewater-Raritan High School hosts event for 702 graduates.

A full gymnasium of parents and friends witnessed and cheered on the graduation of 702 eighth grade students from Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School Monday.  The students, robed in bright red gowns, bathed the floor of the high school gym in a firey glow while friends, family and well wishers filled the bleachers surrounding the students.

Eighth Graders Receive Academic, Other Awards

The awards are given out at a special ceremony for the eighth graders.

Many of the middle school's eighth graders were recognized Thursday, receiving awards for both academic, athletic and other work at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School's annual ceremony. Students were invited to attend the ceremony, but were not told what they were set to receive. They found out with the audience during the ceremony.
