The zoning board voted unanimously last month to approve a site plan for a new CVS at the corner of Union and Finderne avenues, saying they are comfortable that all traffic concerns will be fixed. The application was originally before the board earlier this year, but board members were concerned about the additional traffic at the intersection, including the proposals for having right in and right out access on Union and full access to the building onto Finderne. An engineer with the township will discuss traffic at Union and Finderne avenues.
CVS is returning to the zoning board Tuesday concerning an application for a new building on the corner of Finderne and Union avenues, and an engineer for the township is expected to discuss traffic concerns at the intersection. The application was originally before the board earlier this year, but board members were concerned about the additional traffic at the intersection, including the proposals for having right in and right out access on Union and full access to the building onto Finderne. CVS will make lane changes if its application for a building on the corner of Union and Finderne avenues is approved.
After bucking concerns about traffic on Union Avenue with vehicles being able to make lefts out of a proposed CVS on the corner of Union and Finderne, the applicant has promised, if approved, that it will take responsibility for making road improvements that the NJDOT has so far been unable to afford. Gary Dean, traffic engineer with the applicant, informed the zoning board of these plans Tuesday, saying that since CVS was last before the board in March, representatives have met with the New Jersey Department of Transportation and Somerset County to work out the kinks in the plan. Despite being appeased about some concerns of signs at the proposed CVS at the intersection of Finderne Avenue and Route 28, for members of the zoning board of adjustment, the biggest issue is with the perceived burden on traffic. The zoning board heard a continuation Tuesday of an application concerning a proposed CVS on 2.75 acres of land at the intersection that is currently undeveloped. The drug store, if built, would be 14,600 square feet. But for the zoning board, the biggest concern was the applicant's desire for unrestricted access in and out of the parking lot from Finderne Avenue. The zoning board heard the beginning of an application for a new CVS.
A new CVS is being proposed for a residential zone on the corner of Finderne and Union avenues—but for zoning board members, the biggest concerns were for proposed signs on the property. The property is currently in a residential zone, rather than commercial, so representatives spoke before the zoning board Jan. 31 with a request for a variance to build the store and pharmacy. “The site in question is undeveloped currently,” said David Caruso, engineer for the applicant. The proposed development, Caruso said, is 14,600 square feet, with a total of 67 parking spaces, as well as an access drive with a dual drive-thru for the pharmacy at the building. I agree with BRIDGEWATER RESIDENT. Use the Drug Fair building as it's already a nightmare trying to make a left turn off of Union Ave coming either way at that intersection. more ›
