UPDATE: Fuel Tanks Ruptured in Dump Truck Crash

Truck with 125 gallons of fuel ran off the road Tuesday morning.

Fuel was running rapidly toward a storm sewer grate on Route 22 West after a dump truck overturned around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to North Branch Fire Co. Chief David Hickson. According to Hickson, the accident involving a large dump truck backed up traffic for hours during rush hour on the highway. Hickson said that the North Branch Volunteer Fire Co. and Green Knoll Volunteer Fire Co. were dispatched to Route 22 West near Route 202/206 for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. "A large dump truck was found on the Jersey Barrier with an active fuel leak," he said. "The truck, which left the roadway, had 125 gallons of fuel in its saddle tanks."
