Bedminster Proposes New Intersection on Rte. 202/206 off I-287

This would be in connection with the NJDOT's decision to elongate exit 22A on Route 287.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation is working on some major changes to the interchanges around routes 287, 78 and 202/206 in Bedminster, and officials are proposing an additional plan that could improve travel for residents and visitors in the area. “There is a plan for a significant change in the mixing bowl that is routes 287 and 78,” Bedminster Mayor Steve Parker said at the Feb. 19 township committee meeting. The NJDOT is planning changes to the intersections at I-78, Route 287 and Route 202/206 to improve traffic. Good luck. DOT abandoned major roadwork plans 10 years ago - lots of negative feedback from residents & businesses. Now they're pushing so the town can eventually get clearance to build a mall after the state police move out. I cannot wait for my house to sell so I can get away from the constant building & congestion.   more ›

More Than Dozen Accidents on I-78 and 287 in Bernards Area

State police out cleaning up, but traffic is not blocked.

State police in Somerville said troopers were out on I-78 and Route 287 responding to about 14 to 15 accidentsin the Bernards Township area between about 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, as snow and an icy hail continued to fall on roads. A two-car accident at about 1 p.m. on I-78 westbound at milepost 28, just west of the intersection with Route 287, resulted in no major injuries, according to state police. He said a trooper was at the scene after 2 p.m., but traffic was flowing smoothly. A bypasser said that a car was on the median in that mishap. The Basking Ridge Fire Co. was seen heading to a crash on Route 287 northbound at milepost 25.5 at about 1:30 p.m. Another car had skidded off the road at mile marker 28.6 on Route 297 southbound shortly…

In my case, driving as slow as 15 mph helped me regain control without hitting the pavement, trees, etc., and the lack of oncoming traffic was a blessing. Studded tires aren't permitted here since they damage the road surface, like Linda said.   more ›

UPDATED: Fatal Crash Kills 2, Injures Man, Boy, 11

Two women dead after vehicle left roadway, crashed into trees along I-78 in Bernards, police say.

Two women were killed when the vehicle they were in ran off the roadway and struck trees on Interstate 78 in Bernards Township early Thursday morning, State Police said. Tonya Gordon, 44, of Somerville, and Natasha Melendez, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman. State Police did not immediately know where Melendez resided. According to Grossman, Davante Gordon, 20, of Somerville, was driving westbound when he lost control of his Nissan Maxima, near mile marker 33.8, ran off the left side of the road and hit two trees at about 2:30 a.m. According to Grossman, the front-seat passenger, Melendez, was ejected from the car. A tanker truck jack-knifed Friday night, blocking westbound lanes of Interstate 78 near Exit 33. The truck blocked lanes just west of the exit, but was cleared shortly after 9 p.m.

Woman Seriously Hurt After Car Flips Over On I-78

Accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

A single car accident on Interstate 78 in Bedminster near the ramp to Interstate 287 on Saturday morning left the driver of a white Nissan Sentra hospitalized with serious injuries, according to Sgt. Bryan Polite of the New Jersey State Police. Andrea Sanchez, 23, of Washington Township, was trapped in her overturned vehicle when the state police arrived on the scene at 2 a.m., Polite said. After being freed from the car, which had overturned onto its passenger side, Sanchez was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, Polite said. The Bridgewater Police Department and the Somerset Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Unit assisted at the scene and the accident is still under investigation, Polite said.
