Vanderveer House Hosting Revolutionary War Re-Enactors

The house will see a drill from the Outwater's Militia.

The Jacobus Vanderveer House in Bedminster is hosting a group of Revolutionary War re-enactors at a special presentation Saturday. This first annual drill will last from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. According to a release, the Outwater’s Militia, a group of Revolutionary War re-enactors from Bergen County will be holding the drill. The original Outwater’s Company, the release said, was founded in Hackensack in 1777, and the re-enactors group was established in 1979 to re-create the Revolutionary War unit, while also featuring civilian roles to create the full experience. Vanderveer House Hosting Presentation on Pluckemin Cantonment

The building was home to General Henry Knox in the Revolutionary War.

The Jacobus Vanderveer House and Museum in Bedminster is opening its doors for a presentation on the Pluckemin Cantonment, considered to be the first military training academy in America. According to a release from the Friends of Jacobus Vanderveer House, General Henry Knox commanded the Pluckemin Cantonment while he stayed at the Jacobus Vanderveer House from 1778 to 1779 during the Revolutionary War. The Cantonment itself, the release said, was said to be located in the area of town where the Hills of Bedminster is situated today. Washington College professors John Seidel and Stewart Bruce are creating a virtual 3D model of the Cantonment, and they are planning to preview it during the upcoming presentation. Colonial Christmas Shows Somerset County 200 Years Ago

Fundraiser benefits restoration of pre-Revolutionary era house.

The Jacobus Vanderveer House, nestled on Route 202/206 in Bedminster, was dressed in style thanks to the Colonial Christmas event over the last two weekends.  The Vanderveer House was decorated with an exhibition of paintings, including a specially commissioned work of a depiction of "General Knox at the Pluckemin Artillary Barracks, 1779." And David Mitchell, artistic director of Still Life Fine Event Design, created holiday decorations throughout the home. In the house, each of the rooms had re-enacters providing information about architechture, displays and the house, in addition to activities to learn about the history of this Somerset County landmark. Colonial Christmas' Last Day is Sunday

The annual Jacobus Vanderveer House fundraiser, a trip back 200 years, wraps up between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

It is the 10th annual celebration as the Jacobus Vanderveer House in Bedminster steps back in time more than 200 years to celebrate its Colonial Christmas fundraiser. “It’s our biggest fundraiser, and it’s been growing in popularity,” said Renae Tesauro, with the Jacobus Vanderveer House. “Last year we welcomed more than 1,500 visitors.” And for the first time, Tesauro said, they are expanding the program to two weekends. “Many people have asked us to expand it, so this year we are expanding to two weekends so that more visitors can attend,” she said. “Plus, more school groups will be able to attend.
