District still isn't commenting on whether Larry Markiewicz will return to Bridgewater-Raritan.
With no word yet from the administration on if or when high school band director Larry Markiewicz will return following his suspension, students are still asking for a quick resolution. “I respectfully request that the board please expedite the process with the consideration of Larry Markiewicz,” said Bridgewater-Raritan High School senior Megan DeMichele, who is the drum major for the marching band. “It’s been 55 days. We would really appreciate having him back in the classroom for the final few weeks.” Markiewicz was suspended with pay in early March, pending review by the superintendent and administration. Bridgewater-Raritan the highest-placing New Jersey band in history of national competition.
The Bridgewater-Raritan High School marching band was recognized by the board of education Tuesday for placing higher than any other New Jersey band in history at the recent Band of America Grand Nationals in Indianapolis. With members of the band and their parents watching, along with director Larry Markiewicz, the board showed a video of the band’s performance at the competition, receiving a standing ovation at the end. “The band ended as the highest-placing New Jersey band in the history of the competition, and the second New Jersey band ever to make the cut for semifinals,” board president Evan Lerner said. “And they were awarded the National Esprit de Corps trophy for its ideals of leadership.” And then, Lerner said, the band returned…

After a full season of competitions and performances, the Bridgewater-Raritan High School marching band ended its season on a high note Sunday—as the winners of the state title at the NJ State Championships in Edison. “It was a nice way to end,” said band director Larry Markiewicz. “These kids are very proud and very passionate about what they do.” But that’s not all—at the national championships in Indianapolis last week, the band placed 18th out of 100 bands, the highest Bridgewater’s band has ever placed in the national competition. The Bridgewater-Raritan High School marching band won top honors at the US BANDS competition in Somerville this past weekend. With a composite score of 94.575, the BRHS Panther Band won group the VI open class, and also scored the highest composite score overall. Do you have any photos from the event? Post them here!

Saturday marked week three of the USBANDS 2012 high school competition season, including a Gold Star competition in Piscataway, and Bridgewater-Raritan took home top honors. The Piscataway competition included bands from Bridgewater-Raritan, Immaculata, Hillsborough, Somerville and other high schools around the region. The Bridgewater-Raritan High School marching band won its group, and also won the “Mayor’s Trophy” for the highest overall score of all the bands competing. The Bridgewater-Raritan band next takes the field in competition at the USBANDS Yamaha Cup, at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 13.

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School marching band took part in the Scotch-Plains Fanwood USSBA Band Competition this weekend, and took home top prizes in many categories, including best score in its overall group. The band also took home best score overall; best music score, overall; best visual score, overall; and best general effect score, overall.

The 2011 season for the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Marching Panthers has been historic, as the band will complete the greatest season in its history with a final performance during the half-time show at the Jets game Sunday. This year the band went undefeated in its class for both the USSBA and Band of America competition circuits.
