Community Center Holding Music Festival

It will be a fundraiser for the Martinsville Community Center.

The Martinsville Community Center is holding a Spring Music Festival as a fundraiser for the organization. The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 5 at the center on Washington Valley Road. Admission is $5 per person, and children under 12 can get in free. Refreshments will be for sale. The event will feature five artists from across New Jersey and the tri state area showing off their special talents. John Hankinson moved to New Jersey 20 years ago, and has played many different venues over the last 10 years. Tom Byrne, a Long Island native, has been playing guitar for years, and his first song was called “Statute of Limitations.” Melissa Anthony, a Middlesex native, is the youngest of the performers, and brings original songs to …

Girl Scouts Donate Games to Martinsville Community Center

The junior girl scout troop recently presented the items to the center.

Bridgewater Junior Girl Scout Troop 60810 recently collected new and gently used games and puzzles as part of one of their many volunteer projects this year. They proudly presented the collected games and puzzles to the Martinsville Community Center to be used in a future Family Games Night at the MCC.

Community Center Hosting Arbor Day Event

The event will include a tree planting.

The Martinsville Community Center, Bridgewater Township and Shade Tree Board will be hosting an “Old Fashioned” Arbor Day Celebration to celebrate the Earth. The event will be held April 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Martinsville Community Center on Washington Valley Road. Sponsored by Verizon Wireless, the event will include a tree planting and dedication as well as a community tree seedling distribution. There will be community service displays from Cub Scout Pack 46, the Bridgewater Shade Tree Board, Somerset Valley YMCA, Verizon Wireless and the Green Team. The event will feature refreshments from Gabriel’s Fountain, as well as entertainment from the Hickory Tree Chorus and Sequoia, a folk rock fusion band.

Business Group to Aid Washington Valley Corridor Stores

The group spans across Bridgewater, Warren, Bedminster and Basking Ridge.

In the 1970s, there was an organization called the Martinsville Merchants Association, designed to support Martinsville businesses. It did so through raising awareness by providing fireworks at Chimney Rock Park on July 4 and publishing a map of the area, in addition to giving these businesses a place to network. And now, more than 30 years later, another group has formed, and grown to 44 members, as they have joined to create the Washington Valley Business Alliance. The idea to re-establish a local business group began about a year ago, according to Mike Hompesch, chairman of the group. Martinsville Community Center Reflects on 2011

And members elect a new a board for the next two years.

The Martinsville Community Center held its annual meeting Nov. 16, electing officers and trustees for the 2012-2014 term. The newly elected officers and trustees for the 2012-2014 term are Jane Waldron Gandolfe as president, Al Beronio as vice president, Virginia Consalvo as treasurer, Vicki Charles as recording secretary and Kathy Hall Bachmann as corresponding secretary. Tom Belardo, Carole Juth and Richard Lepik are the trustees for the new term. In addition to the election, the 2012 budget, by-laws updates and the 2011 MCC accomplishments were reviewed at the meeting.
