Tentative Pacts Reached with Schools' Supervisors, Principals

Agreements with Supervisors and Principals associations need ratification.

The Bridgewater-Raritan board of education is reporting that tentative agreements have been reached with the Supervisors Association and the Principals Association. The Bridgewater-Raritan Principals Association had declared an impasse in December, and negotiations were ongoing with the Supervisors Association in January. Board of education President Patrick Breslin announced Tuesday that the board has reached tentative agreements with each of the two associations. “At this point, both are in the process of working through their own versions of salary guides,” he said. “They will be worked out with the board, and, following that, the memberships will have the right to review and ratify the agreements.” After that, Breslin said, the board …

Principals Association Declares Impasse in Negotiations

And discussions are continuing with the Supervisors Association.

The board of education is beginning its negotiations with both the Bridgewater-Raritan Supervisors Association and the Bridgewater-Raritan Principals Association—and one has already declared impasse. Board of education president Evan Lerner said Tuesday that the board's negotiating committee participated in a session Dec. 13 with the Bridgewater-Raritan Principals Association. At the end of the meeting, the BRPA announced that it would be declaring an impasse and filing documents with the state's Department of Labor. "Thus, direct negotiations between the parties have terminated and the parties will enter non-binding mediation in the next few months," Lerner said in a statement concerning the negotiations. The Pennsylvania man who was driving during the accident on Chimney Rock Road that partially ejected the passenger was driving while intoxicated, police said. The district and union are finalizing salary guides, and then will be moving forward with the ratification of the contract. The planning board heard from the environmental expert for the applicant wanting to build 18 homes on the former Wemple property off Twin Oaks Road, and said the development will not affect the animals there. Teachers Contract Nears Ratification, Officials Say

With salary guides nearly complete, BOE president 'hopeful we will be at 100 percent resolved soon.'

With a tentative contract settlement in place, the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association and board of education are waiting on completed salary guides before moving forward. Board of education president Evan Lerner said at Tuesday’s board of education meeting that they are currently in the process of completing the salary guides, which are drawn up by the union. “We review them and come to an agreement on that,” he said. “There are very small language issues, but we are pretty much done with that.” Once the guides are completed, Lerner said, they will move on to ratification by the B-REA, and then ratification by the board of education. “Everything is moving forward,” he said. “We are hopeful we will be 100 percent resolved soon.” A …

Adamsville Path Concerns, Teachers Contract Top Local News

County jail brawl, new teacher evaluation program also among top headlines.

Parents living in Mt. Pleasant Villas complex express concern that they have lost their hazardous busing because of a new path built from their homes to Adamsville Primary School. A total of six people, two inmates and four officers, were injured in a brawl at the Somerset County Jail. The details are still being finalized as the union and board of education work on salary guides before they ratify their new contract. The prosecutor's office is offering a reward for information on vehicle vandalism on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22 in Raritan. The district is implementing a new teacher evalution program in line with new state requirements.

BOE 'Pleased' to Have Contract Settlement

The board of education president makes a short statement at Tuesday's meeting.

Board of education president Evan Lerner said Tuesday that he is pleased to report on the memorandum of agreement reached by the negotiations committee. The agreement was settled on by the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association and the Board of Education during a second fact-finding session Aug. 16. As per an agreement with the fact finder, details of the contract will not be released until it has been ratified. Lerner said during Tuesday's board of education meeting that the negotiations committee is glad that the contract has been settled and they can move forward. Teacher Contract Details Still Being Finalized

The next step in the process is finalizing salary guides.

Now that a contract agreement has been settled, salary guides have to be developed before the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association can have a ratification meeting. “We won’t have a ratification meeting until we have salary guides developed and the specific contract language written that we are asking them to review and approve,” said B-REA president Steve Beatty. On Aug. 16, the B-REA and board of education announced that they had reached a contract settlement, more than a year after the teacher contract expired in June 2011. Teachers Get Contract, Lance Holds Town Hall Tops Local News

Bust turns up $3,500 worth of drugs also leads local headlines.

The board of education and Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association reached a settlement on contract negotiations, but the contract still needs to be approved by the full board and all the members. Rep. Leonard Lance, R-7, held a town hall meeting in Bridgewater Wednesday, and focused his attention on discussions of the American economy. A North Brunswick man was charged with having both cocaine and heroin, and selling the drugs. The hearing on the Wemple property was postponed while the applicant's plans are being revised. It will now be held Sept. 11. A former employee was charged with allegedly stealing $656 worth of merchandise from Bloomingdale's over a two-month period.

After more than a year of negotiations, the Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Education and Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association have reached a settlement in their contract negotiations. Details on the settlement itself have not yet been released. The Somerset Valley YMCA fired a swim coach after it was discovered that, about 17 years ago, he pled guilty to having oral sex with a 14-year-old girl. The student-created medical center in a shipping container through Homes of Living Hope has been completed, and it was shipped out to Uganda Friday.
