It will be through Bridgewater, Green Brook, Watchung and more.

This will include stretches of the road in Bridgewater, Bound Brook, Green Brook, North Plainfield, Watchung, Scotch Plains and Westfield. The project, scheduled to cost $7.77 million, is expected to improve mobility along the corridor with a system that will connects the 18 traffic signals in that area into one Controlled Traffic Signal System, according to a release from the NJDOT. This would be in connection with the NJDOT's decision to elongate exit 22A on Route 287.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation is working on some major changes to the interchanges around routes 287, 78 and 202/206 in Bedminster, and officials are proposing an additional plan that could improve travel for residents and visitors in the area. “There is a plan for a significant change in the mixing bowl that is routes 287 and 78,” Bedminster Mayor Steve Parker said at the Feb. 19 township committee meeting. The NJDOT is planning changes to the intersections at I-78, Route 287 and Route 202/206 to improve traffic. First, Parker said, is the intersection of Route 202/206 and exit 22A off Route 287. “The issue is that this is the exit that wraps around the Exxon and feeds into the southbound lane and right onto the jughandle …

This is part of the NJDOT's short-term improvement plans for roadway.
As part of the short term improvements for Route 22 designed by the county and state, Bridgewater's Town Council approved the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Foothill and Ronson roads. The light itself will be installed by the county and state, but the township has agreed to pay for the electricity for the light. “This will be maintained [by the state Department of Transportation],” township engineer Robert Bogart said. “This is an area where there were several fatalities, and there were traffic studies done.” Bogart said the intersection is in the town’s jurisdiction as well as the state’s because of the interchange itself. “But the decision for the traffic light was made because of the accident rate,” he said. …

NJDOT held an information session Wednesday.
With a projected starting time of around March 2013, the New Jersey Department of Transportation presented its continued plans for short-term improvements on Route 22 Wednesday, including the decision to close the U-turns in the median of the highway. According to a release from the state about the program, NJDOT has found several locations with high accident rates, namely Route 22 between North Bridge Street and Grove Street; the intersection of Grove Street and the North Grove Street overpass; and at the U-turns. According to Thomas Dancsecs, with Burchart Horn Inc.—the design consultant hired by the state—the newest aspect of the plan is to create a deceleration lane from Route 22 West onto Interstate 287. "And there is some new sign …

CVS will make lane changes if its application for a building on the corner of Union and Finderne avenues is approved.
After bucking concerns about traffic on Union Avenue with vehicles being able to make lefts out of a proposed CVS on the corner of Union and Finderne, the applicant has promised, if approved, that it will take responsibility for making road improvements that the NJDOT has so far been unable to afford. Gary Dean, traffic engineer with the applicant, informed the zoning board of these plans Tuesday, saying that since CVS was last before the board in March, representatives have met with the New Jersey Department of Transportation and Somerset County to work out the kinks in the plan. The original proposal was for a CVS on the corner of Finderne and Union avenues. The county has jurisdiction over Finderne Avenue, while the state DOT owns Union…

It will go toward Country Club Road improvements.
Bridgewater is among hundreds of municipalities receiving funding for street improvement work through New Jersey Department of Transportation's Local Aid grants. The township will be receiving $140,000 for its Country Club Road Phase III project. The state is giving more than $78.4 million in grants for street improvements, rehabilitation and safety projects this year, all so they won't be paid for by local taxpayers, according to a release from the NJDOT. According to the release, 374 of the 661 grant applications were improved, with money awarded for those. "The Christie Administration strongly supports funding for local aid because it understands how important it is for government at all levels to provide safe streets and roads for …

Safety initiative comes after death of three teenagers in October
A variety of safety measures will sweep New Jersey Transit lines within the next year or so, transportation officials announced Wednesday, in an effort to reduce the number of accidental train deaths across the state. The safety improvements, which include improved signage, warning systems and educational programs, are the result of a three-month study by the Safety Along Railroads Leadership Oversight Committee, formed in wake of the deaths of three teenagers by New Jersey Transit trains last October. "We are really energized about this with a sense of purpose to move forward from the sorrow and grief of each railroad fatality," said James Simpson, commissioner of New Jersey Department of Transportation, at a press conference Wednesday at…

It's considered a simple courtesy, and a simple way to save lives—and Bridgewater police officers, in connection with state officials, are urging drivers to obey the conditions of a 2009 law concerning emergency vehicles. In a press conference Friday at the municipal complex, state officials with Bridgewater Mayor Patricia Flannery, gathered to draw attention to the 2009 Move Over state law, signed by former Gov.
