The freshman is a key contributor to the surging Panthers.
Many freshmen begin their high school sporting careers with doubt and uncertainty in being the newest members of a team—just making the team is a recognizable achievement. But being a contributor on a team playing for a state championship is a completely different experience, and Brett Goldstein is helping the Panthers in a big way. The freshman defender has been one of the pleasant surprises for Bridgewater-Raritan, a team that was initially looked at as not as strong as in years past. Now, the Panthers are 18-6-1. Goldstein made his impact early in the year in a game against Hunterdon Central when he scored one goal and added five assists. He has been a major part of the team’s success this season and will need to continue to help for …

The sophomore Panthers goalie is helping the hockey team as the state playoffs approach.
Replacing a goalie can be a difficult thing for a high school hockey team, especially when it comes to a three-year starter like Mike Haggerty, who anchored the net for the Panthers before moving on to play at Rider University this year. However, the Panthers have found salvage in another sophomore who is starting in his first year at the varsity level. Robbie Campbell has helped the Panthers get to a 14-5-1 record this season, and is looking to continue his first year as starting goalie deep into the state playoffs. Campbell started the season with a bang when he posted a 94 percent save percentage with 32 saves in a 3-2 win against Pingry on Dec. 2. As of the Feb. 3 game against Montgomery, Campbell had recorded 197 saves on the season. …

Panthers battle, but fall short against Gill St. Bernard's Tuesday.
The atmosphere was comparable to that of a heated playoff game, the contest was intense and physical. In the end, only one team could win the boys basketball shootout between Gill St. Bernard’s and Bridgewater-Raritan Tuesday. Gill St. Bernard’s had the last laugh. Steve Danyluk led the Panthers with 21 points and Bridgewater-Raritan rallied back from a double-digit deficit in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Knights of Gill St. Bernard’s, who took the game by a 65-61 margin. “Gill St. Bernard’s is an excellent high school basketball team," said Panthers head coach Gene McAteer. "They’re highly thought-of for a very good reason. They have excellent players, a good, strong team and I’m just really proud of our boys for the …

Head of Bridgewater Lacrosse feels special season will give program exposure.
Bridgewater lacrosse has been the hot program in the state after the 2011 season resulted in a Group IV State Championship and a Tournament of Champions title. However, it is not a program that has just seen recent success, but instead one that has produced multiple All-Americans and various state championships. After defeating Summit in the Tournament of Champions, the Bridgewater-Raritan boy’s lacrosse team finished an improbable run that will only benefit the youth lacrosse programs in town. James Eckert, a former player and All-American for Bridgewater, is the Youth Boy’s Program Coordinator for Bridgewater Lacrosse. He said he knows that a season such as this one can only help his sport get exposure in the town that he has resided in…

The senior lacrosse player is looking for a strong finish to his last year with Bridgewater.
For many athletes, picking a number can be a process. Some need to have a specific number, while others will take whatever jersey fits. For the Bridgewater-Raritan boy’s lacrosse team, there is one number that carries a little more value. The number 8 was worn by Michael Bruce, who was one of the best attackers in the state in 1989. That year, however, Bruce got into a car accident that made him a paraplegic and ended his lacrosse career. Every year the Panthers select one player to wear that number, someone who embodies the same traits as Bruce. This year, senior defender BJ Grill has that number on his back. “Being awarded the number eight for this team is one of my proudest accomplishments,” Grill said. “Michael Bruce was such a great …
A seventh inning rally falls short for the Panthers.
The 14th-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan was eliminated by third-seeded Hunterdon Central in the first round of the NJSIAA state baseball tournament Monday. The Panthers dropped the game 4-3 to the Red Devils. IN SHORT Bridgewater-Raritan had a lot of missed opportunities in its most important game of the year. The Panthers had nine hits, but couldn't overcome mediocre pitching and its inability to hit with runners in scoring position. The Panthers got on the board in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Lyman after a double by Mike Murray and a single by Michael Giordano. Bridgewater-Raritan gave the run right back in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run. The Panthers squandered a scoring opportunity in the …
