Route 22 Corridor Project Information Session Wednesday

Session will discuss the short-term improvements planned for the road.

The county is holding a public information session Wednesday for questions and information on the planned Route 22 Sustainable Corridor Project Short-Term Improvements, with work expected to begin January 2013. The program will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Somerset County Administration Building in the Freeholders Meeting Room on Grove Street in Somerville. The meeting will be used to inform local residents, public officials and the business community on the short-term improvements that are expected to begin in January 2013, and be completed July 2014. Residents will be able to review exhibits of the proposed improvements and discuss concerns with the New Jersey Department of Transportation staff. The project as a whole involves …

'Through Lanes' Proposed to Improve Route 22 Traffic

The county is looking for comments on its long term improvement plans.

The county is moving forward with plans for its long term improvements on Route 22—and most of these plans center on dealing with the high volume of traffic using Route 22 just to get to Route 287 South. According to Joseph Fishinger, Somerset County's principal traffic engineer, the highway, which is filled with businesses and restaurants along one stretch, is often filled with people using it as a thru-way. "Route 22 is carrying more traffic than Route 287," he said during a presentation about the state of the project Thursday. "We have found a large number want to be on Route 287 to go to the turnpike. So in advance of that, we present five facts to know about the project to get everyone prepared for the information session. Presentation to be Held on Route 22 Sustainable Corridor

The project has been on the books for a few years.

The county is holding a public information session Thursday to provide additional information about its planned Route 22 Long Term Sustainable Corridor Project. The program will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with brief presentations at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. concerning the work that has already been done to date. The session will be held in the freeholder's meeting room at the County Administration Building on Grove Street in Somerville. The program, being handled by the New Jersey Department of Transportation, involves both short-term and long-term projects to improve Route 22 on its sustainable corridor through Bridgewater and Somerville.
