The New Jersey Department of Transportation is working on some major changes to the interchanges around routes 287, 78 and 202/206 in Bedminster, and officials are proposing an additional plan that could improve travel for residents and visitors in the area. “There is a plan for a significant change in the mixing bowl that is routes 287 and 78,” Bedminster Mayor Steve Parker said at the Feb. 19 township committee meeting. State police out cleaning up, but traffic is not blocked.
State police in Somerville said troopers were out on I-78 and Route 287 responding to about 14 to 15 accidentsin the Bernards Township area between about 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, as snow and an icy hail continued to fall on roads. A two-car accident at about 1 p.m. on I-78 westbound at milepost 28, just west of the intersection with Route 287, resulted in no major injuries, according to state police. He said a trooper was at the scene after 2 p.m., but traffic was flowing smoothly. A bypasser said that a car was on the median in that mishap. Traffic was being diverted to exit 13A.
No injuries were reported in an accident on Route 287 that caused a truck fire around noon Friday, state police said. Traffic was being diverted off Route 287 north because of a truck fire in the area of Chimney Rock Road Friday afternoon, police said. Police said there was a truck fire called in around 12 p.m. around Chimney Rock Road, and it closed three lanes in the area of exit 14 on the northbound side. According to state police, the truck hit the median, but there were no injuries. Traffic was diverted to exit 13A until about 3 p.m. after the accident was cleared. State police are continuing to investigate the incident. Patch will update as more information is available.

The 18-year-old Barrington woman ejected from a vehicle on Route 287 Saturday was not wearing her seatbelt, according to an article on NJ.com. The woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was identified as Nicole Krause, the article said. According to the article, Philadelphia resident Shaun Newcomer, 27, was driving northbound on Route 287 at 2:51 p.m., and was attempting a last-minute crossover from the outer lane to the inner one when he hit a snow-covered curb. Krause suffered a chest injury after she was ejected from the vehicle, but her injuries are considered non-life-threatening, and she was taken to Morristown Medical Center for observation.

Truck with 125 gallons of fuel ran off the road Tuesday morning.
Fuel was running rapidly toward a storm sewer grate on Route 22 West after a dump truck overturned around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to North Branch Fire Co. Chief David Hickson. According to Hickson, the accident involving a large dump truck backed up traffic for hours during rush hour on the highway. Hickson said that the North Branch Volunteer Fire Co. and Green Knoll Volunteer Fire Co. were dispatched to Route 22 West near Route 202/206 for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. "A large dump truck was found on the Jersey Barrier with an active fuel leak," he said. "The truck, which left the roadway, had 125 gallons of fuel in its saddle tanks." About 150 gallons of diesel fuel are leaking into the grass median on Route 287 after a truck hit debris in the road around 9 p.m. Tuesday. According to New Jersey State Police, a truck was traveling in the express lanes on Route 287 North near exit 20 in Bridgewater when it hit debris in the road, and ripped open its fuel tank. From there, police said, about 150 gallons of diesel fuel began leaking from the truck. Police said there is no storm drain in the road, so the fuel is leaking in the right shoulder of the road, and into the grass median. A Brooklyn man is still in the surgical intensive care unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital after a motorcycle accident on Route 287 Sunday evening. Edwin Rivera, 42, is still at the hospital, according to a representative from Robert Wood Johnson, after he suffered critical injuries to his extremities in the accident that occurred at about 7:30 p.m. According to New Jersey State Trooper Christopher Kay, there is no further information about the cause of the accident itself. A Brooklyn man is in critical condition after he lost control of his motorcycle while driving on Route 287 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to an article on mycentraljersey.com. Edwin Rivera, 42, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick after sustaining injuries to his extremities, according to the article. The article said that Rivera was driving in the left lane at speeds exceeding the speed limit when a white Hyundai entered his lane from the middle lane. The Department of Transportation and Hazmat teams were called out after a tractor trailer overturned on Route 287 in Bridgewater, spilling diesel fuel on the roadway around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. State police are currently still investigating the accident, but said that the road has since been cleared. According to state police, the DOT spread sand along the roadway to make it less slick, and a Hazmat team cleaned up the spilled diesel fuel. The roadway is completely clear at this point, and there are no driving issues at this time, police said.

Good luck. DOT abandoned major roadwork plans 10 years ago - lots of negative feedback from residents & businesses. Now they're pushing so the town can eventually get clearance to build a mall after the state police move out.
