Swimmers Represent JCC at USA Championships

A total of 21 swimmers headed to the tournament in North Carolina.

Members of the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center Bridgewater Tide Swim Team traveled to North Carolina April 4 through April 7 to represent the team at the prestigious Sunkissed Invitational Junior/ Senior Championships of the USA.

JCC Holding Basket Auction, Fashion Show

The event will be held in Watchung.

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center is preparing to feature working out and going out at its Fashion Show and Basket Auction April 18. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung. According to a release from the center, this is a “Fit & Go Fashion Show and Basket Auction,” open to the entire community. Fashion choices will be provided by The Gap, Hillary’s, Inspiring Fitwear, Kamali Kulture and Lululemon. The admission fee—which includes a sit-down dinner, fashion show and 26 tier-one basket auction tickets—is $100. A cash bar will also be available. Sometimes there's just not enough days to go around, but each week we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself. Want a place to take the kids during their week off from school so they can still have the opportunity to get a little education? Head on over to the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center for Birds of a Feather Day with the Delaware Valley Raptor Center. The organization is dedicated to the rehabilitation and conservation of birds of prey, including hawks, eagles, owls, falcons and vultures. JCC Celebrates Purim With Annual Carnival

Rock climbing wall and model race cars highlight the festival.

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center was filled with hundreds of kids, both young and old, as the center hosted its 14th Annual Purim Festival Sunday. "This is a fun event for everyone," said Debbie Golden, marketing and public relations director for the JCC. "It’s an opportunity for families and the community to come together, celebrate and have a good time." Volunteers helping out at the festival included local boy and girl scout troops and members of the JCC swim club. The carnival featured games of skill and chance, a rock climbing wall, pony rides and a GyroXTREME ride, which spun those brave enough to try upside down and sideways. JCC Holding Annual Purim Carnival Sunday

The carnival is the biggest event of the year.

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center will be holding its annual Purim Carnival Sunday to celebrate a very festive holiday. Purim celebrates Queen Esther, who foiled the plans of the king's royal vizier, Haman, in his plot to kill all the Jews in Persia thousands of years ago. In the Jewish calendar, the holiday is celebrated on the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Adar. The JCC is holding its biggest event of the year in the family Purim Carnival, which will be held at the center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The carnival will include an inflatable mountain climber, baseball speed pitch, pony rides, DJ, face painting, hair braiding, cotton candy, popcorn, tattoos and more. JCC Offering Pasta Dinner for Those Without Power

The building just reopened Saturday.

UPDATE: The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center is offering a second free pasta meal at the building on Talamini Road for those without power in the community. The lunch meal will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. "This is open to the community," said marketing director Debbie Golden. "We are inviting anyone without power to come to the JCC for warmth and delicious food." Saturday, 3:30 p.m. After being without power for days after the storm, the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center finally reopened Saturday, and is offering a free pasta dinner at the center. JCC Preparing to Raise 'The Bubble'

It is part of its new 'Swim and Trim' program.

It is part of a multi-prong campaign as the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center prepares for a move that makes it unique in Bridgewater—it is raising the Bubble. The Bubble, or pool dome, will be raised over the outdoor pool at the JCC to allow it to be used during the winter months. “It will go up during the cooler weather, and come off in early May to be off for the entire summer until late September,” said Debbie Golden, marketing director for the JCC. The Bubble will be raised Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. when hundreds of volunteers will work together to raise it up. NY Knick Starks Joins Fans For 3-on-3 Tournament

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center hosted special guest former NY Knick John Starks for brunch and an opportunity to meet with fans Sunday.  Starks signed autographs and posed for photos with fans both young and old. Also on hand was Bridgewater-Raritan High School alum Jon Katz, vice president of sales and marketing at EKTIO sneakers, which is specially designed to help prevent ankle injuries. Starks is helping to promote the uniquely designed shoe.

JCC Swim Team Takes Top Honors

One Bridgewater resident earns 74 total points at the meet.

The JCC Bridgewater Tide Swim Team took its first ever National Team to the Mecklenburg Aquatic Facility in Charlotte, N.C. to compete in the prestigious Sunkissed Invitational from March 29 through April 1.    This meet is a national age group meet sanctioned under USA Swimming.  Fifteen Bridgewater Tide swimmers qualified to swim in this national level meet, and six Bridgewater swimmers participated—Alexis Brewer, Jennifer Doorly, Ryan Bugianesi, Griffin Halpin, Evan Kott and Doug Quagliato.  Many of the swimmers reached new personal best times. Brewer finished sixth place overall in the 50-yard freestyle, and Bugianesi earned a 12th place finish in the 200 butterfly. Kott qualified for finals in multiple events and took 9th place …
