On the article Hopatcong Preps More Unused Property For Sale

BiggieE-Right now the property is untaxed and not bringing in any money. Sell it to Habitat for Humanity for a dollar, they will build a house on it and the new owner will pay taxes on it. What is so difficult to understand? I'm sure the town will get some sort of benefit for "selling" it to a charitable organization.

Seriously? While my heart goes out to those in Oklahoma and I'm glad my house received no damage from Sandy many homes across several states were destroyed as a result of Sandy. It was quite a bit more than "being without power for a few days".

On the article Would You Use a Dog Park in Hopatcong?

ReplyHi Jazzman-Shhhhhh!!!! Not the former landfill !!!! The Mayor would probably insist on a half million dollar investigation into what the impact letting the pups run around property that was once a landfill !!!! I'm sure they'd find a $20,000.00 grant for it though. I will once again say that I'm pretty sure dog parks were first initiated for those living in apartments in big cities and then it became a municipal government tool (vote for me, I got you a dog park). If you insist that your dog will have to go into therapy if it doesn't enjoy the company of another dog get another dog or start yet another yuppie type trend--puppie play dates!!!! Seriously people, just because another town has something doesn't mean we have to have it.

On the article Would You Use a Dog Park in Hopatcong?

The biggest problem with a dog park in Hopatcong would be how long would it take for our elected officials to totally screw it up and make the whole idea a miserable, expensive experience for the taxpayers. I'm sure they'd have to hire engineers, do a year long impact study, purchase the most expensive insurance policy they can afford on our dime with the least amount of coverage, pay somebody else to propose a budget, go over budget tenfold, charge a fee for usage, use that money for something else, and before you know it the dog park would become a run down eye sore that the Mayor would say there is no money to keep it up (because they've spent the fees elsewhere) and it would stay an eye sore for years to come. That being said, this isn't the city, we don't live in apartments, let your dogs run around your yard and take them for walks. Save all of us a lot of money and frustration.

On the article Is There Enough For Our Kids To Do?
Tammy

ReplyI grew up in Hopatcong when there was even less to do. We entertained ourselves all day long. We pretty much stayed within a two block (can you tell I grew up in the Heights where there are actually semi-blocks) radius of our houses and that radius became larger as we got older. We rode bikes, we rode skateboards, we played kickball, we swam in each other's pools and searched for tadpoles in the brooks. Our parents actually knew each other because they bothered to say hello and get to know one another. Everybody looked out for everybody's kid. The result of that was that we rarely stepped out of line because if you did you got a "look" or a talking to from every parent along your way home. I don't understand this need for kids to be constantly entertained. We spent many hours sitting by the brooks just talking or even not talking. It never occurred to us to spend the day inside watching movies or playing video games. Rainy days were torture because we were stuck inside.

ReplyThe sad thing is Mr. Arrogant doesn't care about anybody's pain and suffering but his own. Hopefully when he gets to Big Boy Prison he will get that chip knocked right off his shoulder---with any luck it will be from behind while he is bent over.

On the article Grants Help Hopatcong With Roadwork, Walking Path

ReplyBrian his eyes are open, he is reading with bi-focals. That being said, why are Durban Ave. and Hopatchung Rd. being done AGAIN while the Hills section goes neglected AGAIN? A few roads around Jefferson Trail were paved but Jefferson Trail was not and it is desperately needed. I understand the issue with cars on the road and no driveways but I'm sure the owners would gladly park by the firehouse for one day in exchange for not having to wear a neck brace when leaving and returning home. Don't even get me started on Modick Park. Just how much above the grant money are we going to have to pull out of our collective *sses ? I am all for improvements but the fact is there is a walking path there that I have heard NOBODY complaining about and we don't have money to toss around.

On the article Sparta Asks: Where is Service Electric Cable TV?

Reply"Councilman Jerry Murphy has said previously that the contract calls for periodic meetings about service.
“This is why we wanted a two-year contract,” he said Tuesday. “So we could discuss issues like this. But they insisted on a 10-year contract.”
Township attorney Thomas Ryan said Tuesday the cable company has indicated it could meet at one of the two May council meetings.
Previously, Ryan said, the legal counsel for the cable company asked to meet in executive session with the council to discuss the complaints, but was told the matter would be discussed in a public session." Isn't that refreshing? In Hopatcong they would be granted their executive session without hesitation.

Hi Scooter--Sorry to burst your President Obama hatin' bubble but the free phone program has been around long before Mr. Obama became President. It would really help your "cause" if you researched your facts and made credible statements against our President. http://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/obama-phone
